At a wedding, do you prefer

Do you prefer a plated meal or a buffet? If the bar is limited to beer, wine, and a signature cocktail, do you take issue with that?

A plated meal is fine. I do not drink. so the bar would be of no interest to me.

Plated meal. Since I don't drink alcohol, I'm happy with water, a soft drink, or iced tea.

Personally I prefer plated, that's what we did for our wedding. We also did open bar but I think the beer, wine and signature cocktail option is perfect!

ETA - I don't drink alcohol either but I still think that option is good for those who do.

ETA again - we recently attended a plated meal wedding reception; there were plenty of options for all allergies and dietary requirements sent with the invitation.

No preference. Whatever the bride and groom decide is fine with me.

If it were my wedding ....buffet and open bar. I prefer that people mingle.

I don't drink so a bar or what is offered there is of no concern to me.

I prefer a buffet. Plated meals are very limited in choice and with people having varied dietary needs, I really feel in this day and age, to really accommodate guests properly a good buffet is in order, so they can have more choice in their foods and meet many different needs.

Definitely prefer a plated meal......if the bar is limited that is ok with me.....many of the special drinks can be very expensive and if someone wants something special they should pay for it................

I prefer a plated meal; I do not like buffets on many levels.

Since my drink of choice is wine, I have no problem with the bar option you have mentioned. However, if I were hosting, I would offer a full bar. People like certain drinks, and as a host I'd want to keep everyone happy.

Either kind of meal is fine with me.

I've been to weddings with open bar, limited bar, cash bar and no bar. I've been fine with all of it.

Do what you want and/or what you can afford.

If you think someone will take issue with your decisions, maybe they don't deserve the honor of an invitation to your special event?

If someone takes issue with your wedding, because of the reasons you stated in your op, it tells you all you need to know about them.

I prefer a wedding to just have cake, punch, and no meal whatsoever. This added expense of feeding guests is just not necessary to me. Add the money to their new life and home together. I can eat at home. Not opposed to a glass of champagne to toast the Bride and Groom at the reception but feeding me is just not what I need.

If we decide to attend a wedding it is to celebrate the marriage of the couple. Nothing else matters except celebrating their commitment to each other and to wish them a lifetime of love. The rest is just meaningless fluff and feathers.

It’s not really a matter of budget. We need to provide the alcohol for the caterer to serve. I don’t want to have to guess at how much of each liquor I need. I just seems easier to keep the choices limited.

I really hate buffets in general and don’t like the idea of making my guests stand in line to be fed.

I think people should have what they can afford comfortably. I've been to everything from plated meals and open bar at the country club to cookies and punch in the church hall. In all cases the couple were still just as married and the guests were just as happy for them. We once went to Bermuda for a destination wedding. Our best friend's son. The groom paid for the guests plane ride and their hotel, plus all meals for the 3 days we were there. They wanted a destination wedding but didn't want their guests to be out of pocket for it. They also asked for no cash gifts just a special something they could keep to remember their wedding and who attended. We gave them a silver serving tray - engraved with their inital.

I don't drink, so the bar doesn't matter to me. I actually like what they call Family Style where each table gets let's say Chicken, potatoes, and Corn and you just pass it all around.....Otherwise I prefer Buffet Style versus Plated Style....The last wedding we went to was Family Style and it was great and the food was excellent!!!!!!!

I prefer a buffet, then I can pick the food I would like to eat. But it seems like a buffet takes so long. People who got their food early are done and other people haven't eaten yet. So I guess a plated meal and take your chances, that you will like the meal.

After watching some ugly displays at open bar weddings. I prefer just beer, wine and a fountain of a special drink.

There always seems to be one person, who thinks just because it is a free open bar that they have to overdo their consumption of liquor. Sadly, I have seen too many weddings ruined by someone no longer acting reasonable. There have even been police called. The bride was devastated. All because someone perceived flirting or an insult. And off they went. There was no reasoning with them.

And that is all I remember about their weddings - the arguing and fights.

Last plated meal served at my cousin's wedding was not even lukewarm, too many plates to serve for 200 guests, no one enjoyed their meal ...! So now I favor a buffet.

A sit down plated meal for sure. I am not a buffet person.

And the bar, you will have some that will want or expect top shelf liquor, but who cares.....wine beer and a special cocktail is just fine. It would not bother me at all. You will never please everyone.

Good question and it depends on the type of party that is planned.

As for thr bar- we had a wedding in the family last summer. Did beer, wine and soft drinks only, open for the whole evening. That's what our guests choose to drink anyway. Easy way to keep the budget in check.

I had a buffet meal for my mid day Saturday reception. DS & bride had a Friday nite reception, so we did choice of entree plated meal. HTH.
