ANYONE REMEMBER CACTUS CANDY??

I'm 70 and when we were kids, our mom drove across country to Kansas to visit grandparents and aunts and uncles. Both going and coming (Route 66) we saw lots of signs advertising "Cactus Candy" with an arrow pointing the direction.

Sadly (sob sob!) none of the stores had it, or were usually shut down and deserted so the mystery of this concoction still lingers!!

Has anyone ever seen or tasted it? I've often wondered what it looked and tasted like!

The cactus candy that I have had, was made from the fruit of the prickly pear . ....it was like applets and cotlets...squares , red and rolled in a fine sugar coating. Very good !

My family also drove that route as we had family in Kansas and Colorado but I don't remember cactus candy. Must have been sold at Stuckey's as they always seemed to be out of business. Sorry.

I never heard of it so did a quick search & watched a YouTube video about the history of the Cactus Candy Company & how the the candy is made...really interesting & its available for sale online & shipped worldwide. I'd like to try a box.

My cousin lived in Arizona and she would send my Grandmother a box every year. I haven't had that since she moved to another state. I haven't thought about it in years. It was a good treat.

I miss Stuckey’s. That was a part of our family vacations. Since I’ve never been to NM or AZ (except at the airport) I wouldn’t have known about this cactus candy.

Yes, I have had cactus candy and it was very much like you described.
Living in Latin America, the prickly pear fruit was called "tuna". They came in red or green colors. Loved to eat the fruit; it had lots of seeds, but so good especially when cold! The one they sell in markets now are never as good as those I had growing up!!!

I thought Stuckeys had closed all of their stores but there are still some open. We stop at one when we travel south to visit some of the grandkids.
