I was told this morning by a postal worker, they will not allow their people to delivery packages,if they have to back up out of your driveway, people are up in arms over this, sounds crazy .

I have never seen any postal truck pull in anyone's driveway. Where I live they just block the street!!!

I’m pretty sure they don’t know how to park in driveways. Here they will just stop in the road even if they block traffic that cannot pass their vehicle. Traffic gets backed up waiting for them to deliver packages.

USPS need to be put out of business.

Yes, they do here,if you have a package to big to fit in mailbox.

Why do they have to pull into a driveway?

City carriers still walk. Rural carriers deliver to your box or cluster of boxes.

If undeliverable you get a notice to pick it up.

The postal worker who does our mail, said same thing. He said the Post office does not pay him enough to give door to door service. It is rare when he delivers anything. If it is to big for your mail box (we have a central mail location in our development) you have to go pick it up at the post office.

You have not had a truck pull into your driveway? They do it here,like i said ,if package is too big,for mailbox.

Go out of business? Really? @willdob3 If this happened no one would get anything - no mail, no bills, no packages, no birthday cards, no christams gifts - nothing. How would you remedy this, curious minds want to know.

Our mail person backs up if their is a box or two that does not fit in our mail box. Usually the smaller stuff does fit. (rural delivery and the box is a bit bigger). We have had no issue with UPS as they park the truck at the end of our driveway and carry the package to our door, as does FED EX. The only problem we have had is with a strange company called Laser Ship. They dumped one package under a tree, left one near our trash bin and the last time dropped a package near our rear tire in our driveway...... driving rain storm. I HOPE THEY DISAPPEAR FOREVER... WALMART ASSOCIATED.

We have a rural route address. Our mail carrier delivers oversized packages next to our garage doors after driving up to the top of our hillside driveway. But there is a turnaround area in front of the garage doors. He is very friendly and efficient.

Sounds like a safety measure. I can understand their reasoning. We have public service here all the time warning people to check behind their vehicles before backing out of their driveway. Seems like two toddlers each year are run over the killed because they somehow got behind a vehicle and the driver couldn't see them.

Post Office doesn't want to be responsible for that situation.

Or a kid could lay down a bike or something and it could get run over. Maybe an animal gets behind the vehicle and gets run over.

Accident happen whether you are on your own personal time or at work. It's best to avoid putting people in that situation to begin with.

I have never seen a mail truck in anyones driveway.

If packages don't fit in the mail box he leaves his vehicle in the street where he stops to put mail in our box. He gets out & walks to the door plus rings the doorbell.

Where we live it used to be Rural area. The post office still considers it a rural route & the person that delivers our mail does it in their own vehicle not one supplied by the post office.

If your postal carrier is not delivering your packages I would call the post office & let them know what he said. He is getting paid enough to deliver those packages. He's getting paid more then a a lot of people out there doing harder work. He just does not want to do his job. He should find another job if he does not like getting out of his vehicle to deliver packages when they have them. That's part of his job.

I don't want to see them put out of business. I for one as a taxpayer don't want to bail out their huge pensions they are paying.

The USPS serves an important role & shouldn't be put of out business. I did a search about the backup claim & didn't find any information but there was a article that USPS did change their policy in Town of Ontario about not delivering to homes with driveways longer than 200ft. USPS pulls in & backs out of driveways all the time where I live.

@goldensrbest I guess I'm very lucky. I live in a fairly large city, in a condo. I have both a front and back entrance. The front has a small mailbox next to the door, and the back is inside an enclosed patio between the condo and the garage, just off the street.

I order a lot of stuff online. Most packages are small, and he will stuff them as best he can into the mailbox. Any larger items show up on my back doorstep. I was back there one time when he came by to drop off a box (truck was in the street behind my garage), and I mentioned that I hoped I wasn't making him work too hard with all my deliveries. His reply to me was that it was fine with him, and I was keeping him and the PO in business! He's definitely a gem of a guy!

Depends on which postal person is doing the delivery. One will pull in the driveway w/a package and honk her horn until somebody comes out if it's an item that needs a signature. She won't get out of her vehicle.

If a package does not fit in my mail box (which is across the street) the little truck just stops in front of my house and they bring it to the front porch, ring the bell and leave. I do not live on a busy street maybe that makes a difference.

Alot of people do not have a turn around in their driveways.
