We are considering moving to there from Suburban NYC.

I have been to the area one and liked it.

Looking to buy a gondo/ garden apt.

Not sure where to start though

My suggestion is go to Realtor dot com and start out side of Annapolis, if you want to live on the water, try Cambridge,md or Oxford, md. Kents Island,md. try that the realtor site will steer you where you'd like. Nice area..I'm in VA.

Annapolis is lovely, very high end and very expensive to live there!! Cambridge and Oxford are on the Eastern Shore, totally different location, cost of living is much less .

Annapolis is a wonderful place to visit, but I'd be checking its suburbs also.

I know we have major traffic in the NYC area, but Annapolis traffic reminds me of Long Island's traffic in that there's no way to get away from it sometimes, especially if something is going on at the naval academy.

Prices in the area probably won't shock you - depending where you are in the NYC suburbs, but it's not inexpensive.

I have lived in Annapolis, Maryland all of my life, I love it here and am proud to say I am a native Annapolitan. We have so many beautiful areas and the amazing Chesapeake Bay. Many rivers and creeks, our downtown is charming. Many old historic homes and buildings. You will like it!

@I am still oxox, Parts of Maryland have had excessive flooding over the past year. I am not sure how close they are to Annapolis, which is lovely, but be aware of flood zones when you seek out a realtor. I know that Ellicott City is one where flooding has hit especially hard. Just like others have said, Annapolis is expensive. Of course, what might be expensive to me might be a real bargain to someone else.

If you are interested, there is a website called Only In Maryland (there is one for every state) and it can give you lots of interesting info about Maryland and might direct you to some interesting areas for your consideration.

annapolis is a beautiful town with a small town feel.

lots of history and gorgeous homes and condos on the water.

i would not mind living there myself.

far enough away from the "big city," but close enough to be able to easily get there and enjoy it.

I grew up in suburban Maryland (Silver Spring) and wouldn't hesitate to move back, except for housing prices and exorbitant taxes! The cultural opportunities are hard to beat.

People are rude, and the drivers are rude and aggressive. Can’t stand the dc area. Looking forward to selling my house and moving to a very rural township in PAor upstate ny.

I have lived in NY all my life and need a change but I do not want to move to the sticks. I am tried of the NY Winters, I would like a more moderate climate, we considered Delaware but I need to be closer to life and culture

i am not so sure we have much milder winters than NYC necessarily, but i think annapolis is a nice change of pace and you are still not too far away from several major cities with lots of culture and nightlife.

i do love delaware also, but it is just a bit more "isolated."

I love visiting Annapolis, MD. It's such a beautiful place with plenty of things to see and do.

My dog's neurologist has his office there, so we go there a few times a year for an appointment. I am located in South Central PA.

it seems when we go for the appointment in February, it is always snowing in Annapolis. That area gets more snow and bad weather than we do here. Often, I have to cancel and reschedule for weather related issues.

if you love the area, it's a place to consider. But if you are looking for mild winters, you must go further south.

I totally agree! I have lived in Maryland all of my life and I hate it....for many of the reasons mentioned, as well as high taxes and high crime. But, my husband's job is in the DC area. And, my daughter and her family are here.

Given the opportunity, we would move the whole family out of here....I think we'll need some help from Mega Millions, lol.

@I am still oxox Do your research very carefully regarding Annapolis MD (well, anywhere you want to live, really). People think of the downtown/historic area with the lovely shops, the Naval Academy, the boats/sailing, etc. That is a small part of the area, trust me.

As for flooding; again, research because things are not always what you think. Ellicott City didn't flood, it experienced two top-down flash floods (the word "flood" is the correct term in this case) due to OVER BUILDING courtesy of those who sit in the county seats. Homeowners, business owners, members of the Historical Society...we are ALL out to remove those making these horrific decisions for the county and it's an uphill battle. Flooding (unless you're along the coastline and it's a hurricane) isn't the norm but with the decision to make the 95 and Route 1 corridor extreme high density, it now is.

Maryland is one of 4 states suing the government over tax issues (they want to tax more and can't); we are the WORST state for retirees as per AARP and many other publications (due to COL and the TAXES). We have many famous hospitals but again, don't believe everything you read; they have wonderful (and very expensive) PR/Marketing budgets. We travel out of state for my sons' medical care despite being 20 minutes from Hopkins; there are reasons for this.

My family moved here when I was a child; it's been the home base ever since. I've lived all over the US and overseas and came back ONLY because of my parents. At this point, we are actively looking to relocate because MD is not the place we want to be; the changes are not for the better in any way. What stinks is that the location is perfect weather wise, work wise, shopping wise and activity wise; but crime (and there is a lot), traffic (OMG it rivals LA!!) and taxes (research the amount and what is taxed here unlike any other state in the US) are all reasons we are moving.

Just....research and ask questions. A LOT of questions.

I lived in Northern VA for 40 years and Annapolis was one of my favorite places to visit. We recently moved to North Carolina since my DH's retirement. The real estate taxes were just too high and our house was too big and downsizing there would've been too expensive. When we got our recent real estate tax bill we thought they made a mistake but they didn't and it's great to pay so little in taxes.

Annapolis is a wonderful, beautiful, historic town. On FB the page Visit Annapolis is a good place to start. You can Google to find realtors, I would suggest you choose one from a larger company, who specializes in relocations. But honestly with all the military bases and federal jobs in the region, all realtors are used to relocations.

First choose the area you want to live in; personally I like the townhomes that are walking distance to Annapolis Harbor Center - good shopping and restaurants. I think those are called Admirals Square.

Ellicott City has flooded twice - devastating both times, but it's quite a drive from Annapolis, in another county. I am not sure if Annapolis itself has experienced floods like that.
