Is it the new thing to have 2 baby showers?

Recenty I rec'd an invitation to a baby shower for a family member. Mind you, the first child is 4 years old. I could understand if there was an 8-10 year age difference between the 2, however thats not the case. I've heard of "Sprinkles", but this is a full blown shower with 2 registries!

Am i missing something here?

I think it's tacky, and I'd say the same about "sprinkles". It's all just a gift grab. Apparently this is what the younger set like to do now a days but , honestly, I think they should keep it among their peers if this is somethig they do.

I had one friend who had 2 full blown showers. Her first baby was a boy and she knew her second was going to be a girl. Her mother actually threw her the second shower.

No one else in my circle of friends or my family had 2 showers. The most recent person to have a baby was a relative. It was their second and they were adament there would be no shower or sprinkle for the second child.

So glad you brought this topic up because I thought maybe it was just me! This does seem to be the norm. I don't attend second baby showers (unless there is a large gap between kids or something like that). If it is a close friend or family member I will sometimes get a gift after the baby arrives. I'm just not about the gift grab.

@Irish1210 A “Sprinkle” is a new sibling-to-be shower. Love the name, just not a huge fan of the concept. (Unless, as others have stated, there is a large age gap.)

A sprinkle shower is a smaller scale shower than the one for the first baby.

Just like when it's raining outside it can be more rain (showering) or a light rain (a sprinkle).

My youngest will be 30 soon and my co-workers gave me a casual, small shower for him. It was actually nice to receive a few new outfits for him (he has an older brother) and a crocheted baby blanket.

My youngest in 13 and there’s 6 years between him and his brother. I had a shower for him so I’m not sure it’s the younger set being driven by celebrities. It’s not an unusual custom among my circle of friends.

I don’t see it so much as a gift grab but as chance to get together with friends and celebrate a new baby. As for giving a gift, I think it’s fun to shop for a baby gift and can give something very nice in the $20 to $25 range.

If you have bitter feelings about a new baby getting some new onesies and receiving blankets, please just don’t go.

The world has changed and I think we all know that by now. Yes, back in the day. Even back in my days, there was only one baby shower unless the babies were many years apart. There were no "Sprinkles" then but now it's perfectly ok for a mom to have a shower with each baby. That's the way it's done today. So, go or don't go. If it bothers you send your "regrets" or if you gave an expensive gift the first time around, give a more modest gift this time.

So many negative responses. Maybe I'm missing something here. Four years apart? I don't see what's wrong with a 2nd baby shower, it's not like absolutely everything can be used again for another baby. Perhaps the first child is a boy and the new baby is already known to be a girl (or vice versa). Even if not, there are always new things that are needed badly for a 2nd baby.

I would buy the practical things a new baby (and new 2-children parents) would definitely need and cannot be handed down from the 1st child (diapers or diaper service, wipes, new pacifiers & bottles, hire a cleaning service, ready-to-eat meals for the parents, gift cards, gift cards, gift cards). I'd probably ignore the registry.

it doesnt bother me.

if someone wants to have a shower for someone and i care about them, then i go and enjoy the party. i would be giving a gift anyways so this just allows me to do it more formally.

some love to use the term "gift grab." i prefer to see it as a celebration.

if you dont enjoy them or dont want to attend or dont want to give a gift, then it is quite easy to sit it out.

That's sort of the way it was when we were all young, growing up, and having families of our own. The showers were small, and it was mostly family members and a few close friends who were invited. And it was considered tacky if a family member gave the shower. I don't have to worry about going to any of them now. I'm at the age where I don't get anymore wedding, baby or bridal shower invitations, everyone is already married or too old! Thank Goodness.

I have no problem buying a gift for the new baby. However, I'm not wild about showers anymore. If I'mclose to the person, of course I'll attend, otherwise I just send a nice gift.

OK another point of view here My DS and DIL have 3, first 2 were girls, last a boy (9 years between the two youngest).

Nice big family and friends shower for #1. Because she has a large family, they WANTED to give her a 2nd shower. Her family is wonderful and I am quite fond of them. So she gave in and it was tons of fun.

Because my grandson was a surprise! and it was 9 years since child #2, her church friends and 2 sisters begged to give her a shower. It was the best one fun-wise and we all had a blast.

As an aside, I LOVE baby showers. And thankfully they only had 1 of those silly games at the first 2, and none at the 3rd one by my DIL's request.

So I guess it all just "depends" on the situation. I so enjoy baby showers and went to everyone I was ever invited to. Of course, I knew the people involved!

OK, back to your regularly scheduled program LOL
