Missouri Tour Boat Tragedy

There are no words to express the sadness of this news. There was a family of eleven that lost nine of their family. That could have happened to any of us.

This happened in my state and is just heartbreaking. These storms came up so quickly with extremely high winds - no advance warnings that I've heard. This was a large passenger tour boat on Lake of the Ozarks, and it's my understanding that life vests are not required on these boats. I've been on them before in Florida and the Carribbean, and life vests weren't provided on them either. It's just a horrible and tragic accident.

Edited: just occurred to me that this is not the same type of boat I've been on. I think I glossed over the fact that it was a "duck boat". Regardless, it's such a tragedy.

wonder if we will ever know how many lives would have been saved by wearing them...i heard it isn't mandatory......maybe now it will be......

I think another impediment to getting out was the boat having a canopy on top with the plastic side windows down. Supposedly the windows were made of flimsy plastic that are secured with Velcro and could be pushed outward but might be hard if water was against it (and the person was panicking).

There were severe thunderstorm warnings in that area and the boat should of never gone out.

Very sad. Wow.

I used to race sailboats and we did some really dumb stuff, especially in the winter. I sometimes wake at night in a fret, wondering how it is that I escaped with my life.

I can't imagine the sorrow.

There were bad storms in that area for a while. There were warnings out and the storm hit Branson before going on to hit Table Rock Lake. So sad.

Lakes can be just as treacherous as the ocean in a storm. Very sad and the Duck had no business on the lake with warnings of a storm.

I watched the interview with Tia Coleman, one of the survivors. She and a nephew survived. Tia lost all of her children.

These people need our prayers in the biggest way. I’ve known pain but nothing like this.

We went on a tour of Santa Barbara, then the vehicle went right out into the ocean. There were no life vests in sight. I've heard on news reports that the captain told the passengers they didn't have any need for the live vests. Tragic.

I live 4 hours north of Branson. On Thursday afternoon, my area experienced a rapid release of golf-sized hail during 90 degree weather. Dropped from dark gray thunderstorm. Came and went quickly. Huge lakes in southwest Missouri. Calm waters can't always be trusted when storm warnings are given. Heart breaking incident for all who are personally touched by this tragedy. I'm so sorry.

I watched the interview of the survivor who lost nine family members last night. I cried the whole time. I cannot imagine being in her shoes. Sending eternal prayers to her.
