I agree. I don't know why they can't just be honest and upfront. I also do not see how they improved business.

did anyone really think they were permanently changing their name? it was mostly to introduce their new burgers.

i always just thought it was a marketing ploy.....pretty much what many major businesses use to get people talking.

I don't feel any dishonesty. I never thought it would be a permanent name change....only a temporary name change to introduce a new product line.

I saw an IHOP commercial on TV 2 days ago saying that it was just a prank.

The photos of them changing IHOP signs on businesses, that were shown online, were all photo shopped.

Pretty expensive and elaborate prank.

Yes, I think it was pretty obvious the public was not happy with a change to IHOB, just to add more burgers to their menu. It certainly succeeded in people talking about the chain, and drew in some curious customers, but the drama wasn’t worth a permanent name change.

It was stated in the beginning of the IHOB ad campaign that it was only going to last a certain amount of time. And then the name was going back to IHOP for their 60th anniversary.

I don't believe it was stunt, that makes no sense and who pulls a month long stunt"? I believe the name change made no sense and it wasn't understood or well received by customers so they scrapped the idea. I don't why they didn't own up to it. It was a stunt just makes them look dumb.

I think that's a bit of an overreaction to a pancake place pretending to change its name to promote new burger specials.

It was a publicity stunt and that was obvious from the beginning to anyone remotely associated with advertising. It worked like a charm! They got advertising they could never have bought basically for FREE!

I think it was silly, funny, harmless and give them an A plus for thinking it up. I don't believe anyone was harmed by it. I'll bet a lot of burgers and even pancakes were sold too, and the name recognition is sky high now.

I'm not buying that at all. It was a stunt from the beginning. No company advertises a major name and branding change without changing a single physical location. They didn't even buy the ihob.com domain name which would have been a monumental failure on the part of any business.

I agree. That's why I am certain it was not a stunt. They would would pulled a stunt on Aprils Fools day or even Friday the 13th and it wouldn't have gone on for so long. It was a bad idea and they reveresed themselves. They tried to save but it would have been smarter, I believe, to just say that something like "we listened to our loyal customers and we have decided not to change the name they know and love". It was a stunt reminds me of that "dream" from the Dallas tv show.
