Car door locks-remember?

Police are reminding people in my town to lock your car doors and double check to make sure the key fob is working.

That made me think of old cars. Do you remember when we had to actually push all the knobs on the doors to lock our cars up? And we had a key for the doors and a different one for the trunk?

I had an older car up until about 10 years ago. It had auto locks, but still had the manual roll down windows. I had one of my neighbors little boys with me and he got so excited because he could roll his own window down. LOL

@cookinfreak OMG......you are really dating yourself (and me)! I hadn't thought about the key thing for awhile, but I do remember having to stick a key in the door, then another different key into the ignition! I sure don't miss those roll up windows either!

Now mine has a remote starter where you push a button. No key just the remote fob or I don't know what they call that.

Mine has all kinds of electronics on it that I have no clue how to use or what all it does. LOL!!!

I factory ordered my car last summer. I have both key fob & keys to open my car doors & trunk. Keys & fob are standard w/some car manufacturers.

I've had my car for nearly a year & I am still staring at the airplane control panel like a deer caught in headlights. After the heatwave, I am taking my car right back to the dealership to have someone show me what to do w/each & every instrument while I sit back & take notes.

How about using a coat hanger to get into your locked car. Or a key for the gas cap

and those cute little vent windows with ther own crank...

I hope my old "relic" (2005) lasts forever! I have a key, a key fob, and external key pad. I can never lock my keys in my car (assuming I don't suddenly forget the combination on the key pad!!!!!).

Take a look at the 5 number pads on your door: you can tell by the worn ones what at least 3 of the #’s are.

If a thief has enough time or it is dark out, s/he can play around until pay dirt is hit.

I'm a nut case about reading the owner's manual when I get a new car, but my current 2014 isn't that complicated, and I really don't need all that extra stuff they put on cars now. I just get in, buckle up, start the thing, and drive!

Remote keyless entry fobs: if you haven’t used it in quite a while, don’t be surprised if you need to get a battery for it.

Traded cars with DH while the van is being serviced. Since I don’t like to drive his car, the remote’s battery was so weak that it didn’t work....$10 for a replacement !

Oh, yes, until 1989 we stilled owned a car like that. I only locked the keys in the car twice though.

@jlkz That's weird. I had my last car for 13 years, and both the remote key fobs still worked fine with no battery replacement.

Interestingly (or maybe not), I was just thinking about this the other day. My car is a 1997, which I purchased brand new at that time, and I have not yet had to replace the battery in my clicky thing for locking/unlocking/alarming the vehicle.

I just cannot imagine a battery for most anything lasting almost 21 years. The spare is put away and I don't think I've ever even used that one.

I always carry a spare key in my handbag. My hubby's car I never drove. I always had a fear of driving a large vechicle. When he got sick, I had to start driving it, as my car was too small to get him in it with oxygen and all. The first time I got in and all the doors locked by themselves, I almost had the big one. LOLOLOL I thought I was in one of those horror films.

Just bought a nearly new Jeep Wrangler to tow behind motorhome....has the hand crank windows and only a key to lock it .....😊 I kinda like it because now I can get the window rolled to exactly where I want it ! 😄

I've read my owners manual so many times that I practically know it by heart. It's thicker than the book War & Peace!

For some strange reason, what I read I understand. When I try to work my control panel I get brain farts. So far I have mastered the CD, setting up my radio & playing my iPod all from my steering wheel. It's that darn main airplane control panel I haven't mastered.

Oh, did I tell you my car talks to me! I tell it to do something & this female voice says, "Sorry I don't understand. Please repeat command."

My SO reset my heating settings during the winter. I had set it wrong. I never pushed the "heat" button which lights up when on.

I did master my air condition settings.

I miss my manual old car.

Anybody remember "foxtails?" My SO found some at a flea market a few months ago. He got one for me. He put it on the antennae which is on top of my rear window,

I thought key fob batteries only lasted a couple of years. My car is a 2015, and I had to replace the batteries last year. I had a message come on my dashboard telling me they needed changing.

@Mz iMac OMG! ROFL! I understand completely about reading, comprehending, then being unable to translate all of it into action.....it must be an age thing. After reading your post, I reallly want to keep my 2014 Mustang forever.........I just hope it will cooperate. I got mine the last year before they added all that computer stuff. I don't want to have to figure anything out.......I want to just get in and drive.

Mine is also a 6-speed manual, which I actually requested because I enjoy the driving experience, and don't want the car doing it for me. As long as it has A/C, power steering, windows and locks, and a good stereo......I'm fine. I don't need anything to beep or flash at me when I want to change lanes, or slam on the brakes for me, because when I'm driving that's all I'm doing, and I'm paying attention!

DH carries a spare key in his wallet that will get him into the car, but it can't start the car. We keep that key in the glove compartment. Provides peace of mind when you are traveling. Image locking your keys in the car when you stop at a rest area? Also, keep your car locked when you are not in it. We left our car once unlocked in our own driveway. DH discovered that some change was missing that he kept in a slot for it on the middle console. Sadly you can't trust anyone.
