I can’t think of an idea that seems stupider than self driving cars. I’m not into getting one. Do you think I’ll be eating my words in five years? Would you ever want one?

I don't really think about it at this point. But, hey, they would probably have a better record than the ones with drivers who text/etc while they drive!

No, I don't trust them any more than any other driver on the road. Me, included.

At this moment, I'm saying no but I'm not afraid of new things and self driving cars will be the norm, sooner than we want to think. I'm 58, so it's only matter of how quickly they become available for the average person. It won't be tomorrow or even 5 years from now but if self driving cars are the norm in 10 or 15 years....I'll be 73....so, yes. I will have one. As the saying goes; never say never.

I can't even stand "Cruise Control" and refuse to use it.... I wantt 110% control of my vehicle.

@Q4u, I won’t use cruise control either! It drives DH nuts when I tell him I won’t feel like I am in control of the car. I can’t imagine ever getting into a self driving car.

I never use cruise control either. I like to be in control and I think drivers become too complacent with cc on.

I agree. I've even spent many adult years driving a standard transmission, rather than automatic because I've felt "more in control".

It's coming, but I'm not going to see it when it becomes the norm. If I called for a cab and a vehicle shows up with no driver, I'm not getting into it, My Grandchildren will have to deal with it and they may just accept it.

Not for me!!!! I suppose too many distracted drivers on the road have fueled this idea. However, my biggest fear is that another country or militant group with sophisticated technology could hack into the systems and cause chaos.

If the technology experts can make self driving cars, why not design cars that won't run if the driver is using a cell phone??? Sync the phone with the car's technology and the device gets put into a special compartment. If it is removed, the engine will stop.

I want complete control of my vehicle also and I also drive a stick for better control! It also opens the door for a whole new type of terrorism and the perpetrators don't even have to enter the country!

I think quite a few years down the road ...it will be the norm to have a self driving car.....once it is perfected i think it will be a blessing.....with the ability to prevent accidents...control speeding, etc......My mom had a car accident when she was young and was always too afraid to drive after that....my dad and siblings and i had to drive her everywhere.....................i must say it would have been a blessing to her..............and so many others who don't have licenses, or the ability to drive........but until they are perfected..(prob not in my lifetime)......i will keep on driving myself....................

My husband has had the opportunity to drive several of them. He felt very comfortable. You need to keep you hand on the "wheel."

If you want to be frightened....think about the fact that most of the functions in your car are computer controlled, and it is possible for a hacker to take over those functions.......

I do use cruise control, so I might some day be able to make the transition, but I wonder if even a car that drives itself will be safe if my eyesight dims over the few years before they are available.

Someone still has to be following the road and watching - as the driver of the self-driven vehicle that struck and killed the pedestrian recently (Arizona??) was not. She was watching a TV show on her device, proof that even self-driving cars aren't good for careless, uncaring drivers!
