DO COMMERCIALS INFLUENCE YOU?

I'm talking about television and internet commercials here .... most of them I totally ignore, and I can't even remember the last time I bought something because of a commercial.

Alas, this has changed ..... after being barraged by countless Dawn Dishwashing Liquid commercials recently, with them cleaning up all the oily baby ducks, I bought a bottle of Dawn yesterday. Gotta help the baby ducks.

How about you? Do you pay much attention to commercials ..... and do you ever find yourself buying something you remember being advertised somewhere?

The Dawn dishwashing commercials do make you want to buy it but is is ironic and not mentioned that they do test on animals!

Why oh why do they need to do that when they seem to be doing good with the oil cleaning disasters.

Not at all. But I do love Dean Winters as Mayhem in the insurance commercials. Sadly, for the insurance company, I don't remember what company he represents. I'm pretty sure those aren't words they want to hear!

No, not at all. I'm like some other's. I don't watch them. A commercial means getting something to eat and/or drink and it is a way I fast forward over the commercials!

I would love to say that I am immune to advertising but I know that would be wishful thinking. I bought Dawn because of the ducklings and marvel at the clever ads I see on TV. I have even clicked on an internet ad. I bought my favorite mahabi slippers because of an ad I think.

I try to never pay attention to them but the mayhem guy and a few others catch my attention.

No. Ads of any type stopped having an influence on me when I finally saw the light. I am a marketing departments' nightmare.

I've never bought the sets of Time Life CD's with the music, but I will leave the whole commercial on and watch and listen to a lot of the older songs.

I do not believe I am influenced by commercials other than the catchy songs they use sometimes get stuck in my head. I do not buy things I see on TV for sale.

Most commercials are for unhealthy things ...food, drink....or cars or Drugs. I drive a 20 year old car and only focus on good nutrition and take NO PHARMACEUTICAL DRUGS.

I have noticed of late so much Drug company advertising on TV. It is horrible....worst thing they ever started allowing on TV since the time when cigarettes were advertised like they were good for you too.

For me, yes I think they do. Especially commercials for new products that I have never seen or tried before. Otherwise I probably would have never tried the products if not for seeing the commercials first.

Not one commercial has influenced me into buying something. I do enjoy the ones with dogs but I could not tell you what product they were selling.

@SeaMaiden, I so agree with you about drug commercials. At one time I worked with a woman who was probably in her mid-thirties. She was a complete hypochondriac. She ran through doctors like nobody's business. If she went to see one doctor and he told her she was perfectly healthy, she just "doctor shopped" until she found someone who would medicate her for a host of "problems." Most of her symptom's were straight out of TV drug commercials. She was on more medication than most 80 year olds!

Those of us who worked with her avoided her like the plague. She was exhausting to listen to with all of her complaints. It truly was sad, but I think these drug commercials definitely play to a certain audience, and it ain't the medical professionals.

I was watching this new TV show, American Woman. So many restaurant ads. Those commercials for restaurants get me. Chili's, Olive Garden, Sizzler, Pizza places I never go eat at these places but I usually have to make myself a midnight snack, I get so hungry watching them.

No they dont influence my buying. I dont watch them. I use commercial time to use the bathroom, or some short chore around the house. Most of my favorite TV programs I record and FF thru the commercials.

I record most shows I watch just so I can fast forward thru the commercials.

If I'm watching a show with commericals that is break time or I at least channel surf or put it on mute.

I hate it now when you try to watch a video online & they have to throw in a commercial. I still don't watch it. It's on mute until what I was trying to watch comes on.

@Its Me LuLuBelle2. The last two weeks with the death of Anthony and Kate by suicide, those pharmaceutical drug ads for depression have been playing constantly on TV.

Yes...just take this or that happy pill and the world will be utopia....oh but it just might might kill you a 100 different ways.....

Sometimes. I am totally in love with the Subaru Crosstrek commercials like the one in which the girl and her dog take her boyfriend camping and he finally wins over the dog by giving the girl his coat. Or the one where grandfather and son go surfing. They make me want a Crosstrek even though I do neither of those things.

When my DD was growing up, I always told her commericlals and ads will try to make things look great so you will buy them, and they have a right to do so, but your responsibility is to figure it out to see how true it is and whether you need that "thing." She is a smart shopper to this day.

All that being said, some commercials are works of art and can be enjoyed for themselves alone. For example, the amazon one with the dwarf pony being allowed companionship via the giant doggie door. Unforgettable. I never dismiss commercials out of hand.

Yep, I watch the commercials.

Some of them are v.e.r.y creative..and give me a chuckle 😀

Influence? Nope.

What I do see...the same actor/actress in different commercials.

I have an eye for detail like that. 🤷‍♀️

Currently, there’s an older, grey-haired lady in several

spots running at this time...insurance, potting soil & some drug.

She kinda/sorta looks like a QVC model from yrs past.

ETA: I notice Toyota Jan getting further along in her pregnancy.
