Alligator Attack

The body of a Florida woman who went missing while

walking her dogs has been found, and police suspect a

12-foot, 6-inch gator captured nearby is responsible for

her death. FWC officials found an arm inside alligator.

On Saturday, the law enforcement division of the Florida

Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced

that search teams had recovered the body of the missing

woman from the Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park lake

in Davie, not far from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel

and Casino.

The womans husband was out of town at the time of

the attack. A neighbor told the Miami Herald that he

had warned his wife not to take the dogs over to that

place because they had seen gators before and it

isn’t safe.

The dogs, which are pit bulls, were found still on their

leashes. One dog got bit by the gator. They are

currently with Broward County Animal Care.

I saw that on the news. It brought back memories of the little boy at Disney who was dragged in one of their resort lakes by a gator. So sad.

I read that story. What hit me was that teens SWIM in the water quite frequently.

No signs anywhere as they are not required. I presume that this is due to the "Gators are in ALL bodies of water down here. That's just the way it is" outlook (as reported by many when interviewed). So either never walk around a body of water in Florida or do so and take your chance.

This is so sad and I'm sure something that many who live in other areas can't imagine happening.

My grandparents lived in Florida along the Gulf Coast and their property was right on a canal near a river. It wasn't unusual to walk out their door and see an alligator sunning itself on their grass, and sometimes on their street or the driveway of a neighbor.

It was quite a foreign concept for us kids from Ohio, and I'm surprised my mom ever let us outside alone when we'd visit. I'm sure she was keeping a closer eye than we ever knew.

As we continue to push development of lands, the wildlife has no where to go, and unfortunately the interactions between us and them becomes quite dangerous.

What a horrible thing to happen and my prayers to the family.

Lane Thomas Graves, the Nebraska boy who was killed by

an alligator while playing near the shoreline of the Seven

Seas Lagoon at a Walt Disney World hotel, is now

memorialized with a lighthouse sculpture near the site of

The lighthouse is a symbol of the Omaha-based Lane

It was In south FL. It was a pond. It was a nature reserve. She had 2 dogs ( which may have been the gators original target). Get near a gators nest and u are going to get bit. I feel bad for her, her family and her dogs, Florida knows that they are over run with gators and should be more proactive. I hope the teens will take heed.

FL has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. I love the Gulf of Mexico with its white sand and emerald beaches.

Where I live in Arkansas we have a walking/jogging trail that is taken care of the by the Corp of Engeneers. Several walking trails there, and its got a lot of swampy areas.

We are not known for Alligators in this area of Arkansas. But, there is at least one of them that has been seen at this jogging trail. People take kids, babies in strollers and dogs on leashes. I quit going because I don't want to be dinner for a gator.

I really think they need to get that gator out of there. Its been there for at least 5 years. There have been pics of it in the local paper, I know ppl personally who have seen this thing walking, so its definitely still there.

Horrible. I can't even imagine. My parents had a condo on the golf coast. I never saw a gator, but my father said they were spotted on the grounds. That's enough to scare me.

the saddest part is they killed the alligator. people walk in areas known for alligators coming on shore, yet they do their own thing, well, the alligator did his own thing, eat.
