Nashville vacation tips please

I am headed to visit Nashville next weekend. My daughter has recentlly moved there so she is new to the city as I am since I have only been there once and it was for only one day. We are planning to visit the Johnny Cash museum but aside from that we are open to suggestions. We have enjoyed bus tours of major cities in the past and would really like recommendations on which one to take in Nashville. We would like an overall view of the city and hopefully get ideas on the best way to spend our short amount of time. It will be extrememly hot there (compared to this cool weather we currently have in Michigan) so too many outdoor activities would probably not be good for us. My friend I'm going with cannot do extreme walking though I realize walking alot can not be avoided if you want to see a place, but hiking etc would not be something we could do this time anyway. Any suggestions of fun places or not to miss places would be appreciated and if you have taken a bus tour, which would you recommend?

The Hermitage (Home of Andrew Jackson) - lots of flowers ought to be in bloom. It's a beautiful property where you can proceed leisurely throughout the grounds.

The Gaylord Opryland Hotel - an expensive place to stay, but you can go there and walk around, maybe have lunch.

Country Music Hall of Fame - lots of stuff to see there

The Ryman Auditorium Tour

Grand Ole Opry

Wild Horse Saloon - if you like barbequed meat, theirs is fantastic. Depending on when you're there, there's entertainment and line dancing lessons.

If you are the type to go to bars, there are many and you might get lucky if a country artist shows up.

If you're willing to spend the money for it, and if they aren't sold out, you can probably find bus tour that shows you the homes of some county music celebrities.

I'd recommend the Hall of Fame too if you have any interest in Country music. I don't remember it being a huge place to walk all over and it was very interesting even for someone like me who isn't a huge country fan but had a good time none the less.

Fontanel, it is the former estate of Barbara Mandrell. It is a guided tour that starts off with a short bus ride up the driveway's property to her mansion. We have done it quite a few times, and each time have had a very entertaining tour guide. One time we even had someone who sang to us on the bus and said they just signed a record contract. So sometimes you get tour guides who are very musically talented. Another time when we were in the what's called 'music room,' that had autographed guitars all over the walls and a piano, our tour guide proceeded to play the piano and sing. Fun!

Anyway, they also have a very good restaurant on the premises, a whiskey distillery and a winery, too.

Arrington Vineyards! It’s outside of the downtown area and it’s gorgeous! You can pack a picnic, do the wine tasting and stick around for live music at night. It’s a slice of heaven!

I just spent a week in Nashville!

I would take The Grand Ole Opry tour. It includes Madame Toussauds. I ejoyed it very much! It's also not a lot of walkinng.

Nashville is big on the Battle of Franklin during the Civil War. They tell the story through a tour of three houses. The first house is a guy who had slaves, not a huge amount of slaves, just regullar for a slave owner. The second house is a German immigrant who didn't own slaves at all. The third house is the stereotypical Southern plantation that served as a hospital for confederate soldiers. I enjoyed the tour, but I did consider it a little hard on my old body.

I took the tour of Jackson's plantation, and enjoyed it. They have a museum you start at first, and then there's quite a walk to The Hermitage itself. This tour requires walking.

Nashville has a good Hop on, Hop off bus system. They have two, make sure you take the one that has pickups every 20 minutes. Nashville has some wonderful monuments. I took the hop on bus to the Farmer's Market on a Saturday, and say their WWII monument at the same stop. Farmer's Market is great, but the vendors only show on the weekends.

The thing that really impressed me about Nashville were the trees. It's a beautiful locale.

Across the street from the Grand Ole Opry is the Gaylord Opry land hotel. It is something to see even if you're not staying there.

sunchild, favorite vineyards in the whole state of Tennessee! One of the very first times we went there a limo pulled onto the property, we wondered what it was all about. So as we walked around the property and saw this guy wearing a big black cowboy hat, lo and behold it was Kix Brooks himself. We told him how lovely his winery is and what a beautiful piece of property it's on. He was very nice and thanked us for such a nice compliment.

I was there only once about 14 years ago to visit a friend. She drove me around and showed me things, but I forgot most of it. But there is a hotel in the center of town with a beautiful lobby which used to be the train station. They wanted to tear it down, so the hotel is using it. It's definitely worth seeing.

The other thing I actually saw on Property Brothers is a "Peddle Car". It looks very interesting. Someone is steering the thing, but passengers are sitting on each side of the "car" and peddle. You can carry on a conversation and even enjoy something to drink.

@Preds Yes that's the hotel. I just can't imagine why someone would want to tear that down. That Pedal Car seem like fun. I wonder if other places have them too. I sure have never heard anything about them.

The Parthenon is fabulous. You can do this on the hop on bus tour. I did the hop on and stopped at the Farmer's Market, which meant I could also see thrir WWII memorial and their carrillons monument that plays snatches of famous Tennessee songs in bells, AND the Parthenon AND their city plantation museum.

Or you can just take Uber. It's esier.
