Keep it on the counter until fragrant. You should smell it when you enter the area. I cut it up and store it in the fridge. It takes me up to a week to finish one. I have never cut a half as I do a watermelon. I never had it long enough to know when it goes bad.

I've bought 4 pineapples this season - 3 from Dole, 1 from Chiquita (which I only thought grew bananas - boy was I wrong). My DH and I are huge pineapple lovers. This year they have been out of this world! Exceptionally sweet and meaty. If you haven't given them a try, you're missing out! Try 'em, you'll like them!

I hear what you're saying, but this year they don't seem to be so acidic. All 4 have been really sweet! I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with the pH of the soil. But my next one is for you!

I have eaten fresh pineapple and the best was when I had one in Hawaii 20 years ago- so different than anything else I ever had. I digress...I rarely ever buy them and I mean rarely. Maybe 5 in my lifetime. Just thought they were too hard to handle.

On a whim - bought 1 this season when they were on sale. I cut it open (easier than I remembered) and it was delicious. I'm going to buy another one in the next few days after I finish my watermelon. That is #3 this season What has happened? Falling under the pineapple spell. On sale 1.99 this week at Stop and Shop
