IHOP Announces Name Change to 'IHOB'

IHOP isn't disclosing yet what the 'B' will stand for until 6/11/18.

My guess is that the 'B' will stand for breakfast'.....what's your guess?

Sounds like a promotion rather than an actual name change, which would be sort of stupid, given their name recognition, the cost of changing out all their signs, business documents and so on... Regardless, I think to most people IHOP will always be IHOP...

They might think a name change will help them with low-carb and/or gluten-free customers...or just people who don't like pancakes. I agree with @KingstonsMom that the B will likely be for "breakfast."

But I also agree with you that the rebranding is unlikely to be worth the effort and expense.

I don't eat at IHOP very often, but I know that they have a variety of foods and not just breakfast foods. This must be some type of promotion, because this is a brand that is very well known. The cost to change everything over would be astronomical.

IHOP shocked pancake lovers on Monday when they announced the chain's iconic name will be changed.

Breakfast, bacon, or burgers; something else that doesn’t need to be messed with. IHOP is fine the way it is.

Our closet restaurant is about an hour from my house, but only 10 minutes from the VA clinic. It is our restaurant of choice if we are in that area, and is the main restaurant our daughters give us gift cards to.

We’ve been eating at this IHOP for close to 20 years and have never been disappointed with our food. The criticism from the posts I’ve read here fall back on restaurant management, and we see the manager in action every time we eat there; he or she is out and about, not just sitting in an office somewhere. I will say that about 2 years ago there was a big staff shakeup at this IHOP, and all the servers we were used to, suddenly no longer worked there. With that big change, we’ve also noticed they basically utilize one specific seating section of the restaurant, regardless of the time of day we are there.

Does IHOP seriously think anyone cares? No one is going to call it IHOB anyway. And I doubt half the people who eat there don't even know what IHOP stands for (not because they are stupid; because they are young).

This just seems like an attempt to drum up some business.

THe last time I ate at IHOP was16 years ago. The food was horrible. The service was the WORST. First time I refused to tip.

NEVER went back to one because....it was that bad it turned me completely off the place.

The only IHOP near me would have to change far more than its name to entice me. It's really tough for chains to compete effectively when there are so many good local choices where I live.

@KingstonsMom. We don’t have a restaurant near us, but ate in one while out of town. The food was sub-par and the place was filthy. Could the B be for B A R F?

I have a feeling I'll be even less enthused with the reason behind IHOP's new name change.

I think the change to a lower case b is significant. I just not know what.

Hob makes me think of the word hobble, not a word you want associated with food. People know it as ihop & the name change isn't going to matter, it's still going to be called ihop...what a silly waste of money.
