Have you ever Scheduled a Donation Pickup?

As you may know, I am moving so I would like to donate some items that I won't be using. I've scheduled a pickup with the Salvation Army. Do any of you have experience doing this? TIA

@JBKO, Hi, yes we do all the time.

We have a favorite local charity that we call when we accumulate enough stuff for them to make a trip.

My suggestion is to have everything boxed or bagged and near the door or outside the door, in order to make sure nothing gets picked up by mistake. Our charity leaves us a slip to fill out for taxes. In our case the valuation is not enough for us to bother claiming, but you might want to note it and put in your tax file.

Yes, all went fine when I called them. We were moving out of state. They came on day promised. Salvation Army is great for donations. Also excellent is AmVets (Vietnam Veterans). They send small truck for clothing etc. and large truck for furniture. I used Purple Hearts in Ohio -- very reliable.

Yes,

When I got a new living room suite I donated my old one to a local charity. I just called and they arranged a date for pickup and came and took it away. No problems at all.

I have donated many times over the years to the Vietnam Vets. I do the transaction on line and schedule a day for pick up. In all the years I have donated, I have not had a problem and in fact it is very convenient and more importantly goes to a good cause.

Yes. I had placed a bunch of boxed-up stuff out on the curb along with some things in plastic bags after calling for a pick up. Then later that day I got home to find my things scattered all over my sidewalk! Someone had opened the boxes and bags which were clearly marked 'donation'. I called the charity organization and asked if they had been by and they told me they needed the stuff in bags or boxes...not just laying on the sidewalk.

Yes we have to most ones when we receive a card advising they will be in our area. Most are excited to get things in very good condition.

Wow, sounds great! I'm a little concerned because I didn't receive a pickup time. I don't mind not being home, but I figure it's more secure if I am. I have big pieces of furniture so I doubt the will be stolen--or will they?? hmmm

I schedule a donation pickup several times a year. It is very easy, and when scheduling, you can also request a reminder phone call or e-mail the day before the pickup. You are also asked where you will leave the items and there is a place for notations. The last time that I donated, it was pouring rain and I had a sign on the door to ring the bell. These organizations are very accommodating and grateful.

I don't know where you live or how your neighborhood is but one time I was getting ready to have some new furniture delivered to my house and I had placed a couple of large pieces of my old furniture out on the lawn to get it out of the way until my new stuff was delivered inside my house. My plan was to bring back my old furniture inside and have it ready for donation sometime soon. I was really busy on the day when my new furniture was to arrive so I wasn't paying attention to what was going on out on the lawn. Turned out someone wanted my old furniture so they must have loaded it up and drove off with it without even asking! I felt a little violated that day to say the least. Some people these days just help themselves and think it's free for the taking without asking first. I say keep an eye on it and don't leave it unattended.

The area i live in ,if you put things out on the lawn by the street ,they will be gone most likely.

Just to let you know, in my area Salvation Army is very picky with furniture. I can understand not wanting to take falling apart or junky furniture, but it has to be in new and pristine condition.

Some charities like Goodwill or Salvation Army are picky about furniture. Some won't take things like couches, chairs, tables/chairs etc....Others will only want furniture in "like new" condition---not worn,no tears or scratches etc.....

There are other smaller charities that help people in neeed get a new start and will take furniture in any kind of condition....

I have called AmVets to pick up items. One time I had a sofa to pick up, and they examined it closely to make sure it was in good condition, which it was. It has worked out well each time I've called them.

Sure, several times a year. We get mailings from different organizations; schedule online, they pick up as scheduled, and email me a tax receipt to fill out. No issues and helps others.

I am donated an armoire that is in good condition, a mattress, and 3 air conditioners. I'll also have a box of clothes and another one of books. I'm already planning to throw out the furniture that is not in good shape.
