RFK Assassination

RFK Jr. is saying that Sirhan Sirhan didn't kill his father. Wants the investigation reopened.

Apparently, there is evidence that contradicts the conclusion - too many bullets fired (13 - and Sirhan's gun only held 8), the bullets in RFK may not match Sirhan's gun, fatal bullet came from behind and Sirhan was facing him.

Wow. Really makes me wonder if I can believe anything we are told anymore.

Perhaps Caroline Kennedy can demand a new search for that guy on the "grassy knoll". Is he still a suspect??

There are some stories it's safe to ignore. RFK Jr. isn't the arbiter of justice. It is very doubtful anyone will be reopening RFK's murder case with a mind to reverse an injustice to Sirhan Sirhan or to find the "real" killer..

I would suggest reading up on this. The authors of a new book coming out in November have spent 20 years researching. Paul Shrade -- who was there and wounded -- has backed their conclusions for years.

I heard this on NPR I think it was. If true, the conviction should absolutely be overturned based on the evidence they apparently have. With today's recreation abilities and forensics if anything is even still available to test, it sounded very interesting. I think they said the Innocence Project is working on it and I would think the Kennedys still have enough clout to get things started..

Another issue is grabbing mass attention. No innocent person should ever sit in jail but I don't think there are a huge number of people around today who actually remember and know what this incident was all about except history buffs. There is no huge public interest only because I think it was before most of us were even a thought or even out of elementary school.

My memory of this is foggy, but Sirhan did shoot others as well. So, he isn't entirely innocent of anything. But if he didn't kill anyone, he is certainly not guilty of murder.

And if he didn't do it - who did?

I was working for the RFK campaign in NYC at the time of his assassination. I really do not think that this case can possibly be re opened. First, the Ambassador Hotel was demolished, the tiles in the ceiling (containing bullets, etc) "mysteriously" disappeared soon after the incident, and Rosie Greer grabbed and held Sirhan Sirhan right after he shot his gun.

RFK Jr. felt the same thing about his uncle, Michael Skakel, killing Martha Moxley. Evidence in that murder also disappeared. I guess he has a problem with the court system.

Well I guess I have a problem with a justice system where evidence disappears too.

@Isobel Archer No idea. This was way before I was born and I would never give an opinion after listening to an NPR report for only 15 minutes.

@Isobel Archer You have a huge advantage over me. I am kind of leary of historical judgements anyway without actually knowing the mores of the time period and for that you need to be there. I think a lot of things get judged on current and social ideals like it is the one and only perspective to have and I feel that's extremely unfair.

Definitely interesting to see if they can figure it all out!

Speak for yourself! Please don’t write off the biggest generation ever born, the Baby Boomers, as if they weren’t still around and weren’t old enough (or too old) to remember both the assassinations of JFK and RFK. Yes, lots of you weren’t born or were very young at the time of RFK’s murder, but millions of us were old enough to be aware and care and we do remember.

There is no huge public interest more likely because most people accept this as a settled case, well-proven, and new evidence is presented in one book more as alternative possibility than compelling facts needing urgent light of day examination.

There’s still a whole lot of public who witnessed this event and the trial. Just not a lot of interest in a do-over.

Definitely. I graduated high school that year. Also the year MLK was assassinated. Tough times.

I was only pointing out the legitimate fact that the age of most Twitter users who seem to run our planet now is not an age where this topic would ever trend and gain some traction into the public landscape as a whole. Maybe I am wrong but OJ and Roseanne it isn't.

Now this is bizarre. According to the Washington Post, the autopsy report shows RFK being shot at point blank range from behind - Sirhan was facing him and at a distance.

So if that is true, how did they ever convict him?

I am so tired of "facts" being printed and disseminated in the press that we cannot confirm and that create all sorts of upset and distrust.
