how would YOU change & improve the Q Community?

Offshoot of other threads. I saw a poster @@sfnative who said she would like a sit down panel discussion at Q headquarters with a representative panel of posters (at least 35) and all the Mods.

If you were on that panel what suggestions would you have for the boards?

What changes to the Standards or anything else would you suggest?

I would like the ability to block users, similar to the Facebook feature. I would like to block users who I think are downright unkind, so that they would never even see my posts, nor would I see theirs. Everything else is fine.

i would like a way to notify mods that thread is going off-track in order to thwart hijackers who take an innocent thread and make it poitical.

@ms traditional You can report that already by using the "report inappropriate content" link under a poster's name.

There is a box that comes up and you can type in your concern.

I am happy the way it is. I can chose to read whatever I want. And it seems the moderators do their job by removing unkind words and political leanings. This is a shopping channel forum and that is what it should always be. There are other places to post. I like this one the way it is.

As for unkindness. It is all around us everyday. And there are good wonderful people out there who we should feel thankful for.

We definitely need the ignore/block feature here.

I was very surprised to hear early on when we moved to this software that that option wasn't built in.

I just can't believe someone would build message board software and not include that feature.

I knew Nextdoor.com did not have that feature it's first few years and they finally added it due to all the complaints. Especially because Nextdoor does not allow admins to ban people. The only way to ban people is if Nextdoor customer service does it and it takes a lot to ban someone there.

@VaBelle35i'm aware. but that some times takes quite a while and in the meanwhile thread has gotten argumentative and ends up getting poofed. i am tired of it.

If we had the “ignore/block” feature, how would that work if the person posted in a thread you were commenting. Would their post be blank? I don’t know how the feature worked before.

Yes , but when someone else quotes that post, you still see it.

I don't know the answer but I rarely post anymore. Most of my posts get deleted for some reason.

The moderators are too strict, and poof too many threads and replies. I really believe if they get a complaint, they don't review it, they just poof it. This is a forum, there will be people you don't agree with. Just be an adult and move on. Censorship isn't the answer.

In the past, you wouldn't see that the 'ignored' poster posted at all, unless another poster quoted their post when responding to it.

The reason I liked the ignore, even if reposted, that part I would skip over. Others are baiting as the moderators call it, it's the arguing and attacking that goes on that it would be nice to ignore. Group not responding to these people who had ignore sent a stronger message to me, than a moderator stopping it. I don't see who the moderator stopped if I come in too late to read it. I vote for the right to "ignore" someone.

On a positive note, I still think it would be more fun if we were able to create a poll. That would work well when the topic involves opinion on certain styles and such. That would give us a "snap shot" of our thoughts.

I get really annoyed when some posters who think they are clever try to sneak in politics. It seems to be one side in particular, and they don't think the rules apply to them. I report it immediately.

I like the rare intelligent discussions between two people with opposing views when they can be kept to the two people and don't degenerate into a sideshow. The point/counterpoint back and forth can be quite refreshing. It might be interesting to have an invite only option where two people can agree to debate one another on any topic (including the currently banned ones) and the rest of the forum simply gets to sit back and watch until the discussion is completed. Maybe even have it stay private between the two until the mods can review it to determine if it's civil enough to be posted.

I don't think there's any issue that two reasonable people of opposing views can't sit down and discuss without it necessarily becoming a flame throwing contest. On rare occasions such discourse would take place on the old Viewpoints forum with most just sitting back and watching as the two carried out a discussion. Civility seems less common these days though. (Viewpoints wasn't always a civil place, but on rare occasions real discussions on current topics, including politics, could take place there.)

I've been here off & on since 2005 and I guess I'm just not terribly invested enough to feel that the boards need a change. When we had the ignore button years ago I never used it once but I can understand how some might want it.

If I don't like a thread or find someone is a bit rude then I'll just move out of the thread. I enjoy reading here and enjoy some posters more than others but I remind myself that this isn't real life to me. Yes I do miss some posters who are no longer here...either they got banned or simply lost interest .....who knows?

I think it's nice for those who are housebound to have this opportunity for connection with others but too much time here makes me feel stagnant and I have to remind myself to get out more which I try to do.

So to me the boards are fine as they are.

I would like to see the rules on blocking people to be eased up, a warning before that is done.
