Meghan twelve stood against an advertisement for "Ivory Dishwashing Liquid" sexiest overtones. As a social studies assignment back in elementary school

Meghan and her classmates studied various advertisements to access their messages and was deeply disturbed because Ivory Dishwashing Detergent hinted that household chores were a woman's job. The advertisement had the line, "Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans". The sexiest line did not hold well with her and in the video she is seen saying-

"I don't think it's right for kids to grow up thinking only Mom does everything".

Meghan wrote letters to the then-first lady Hillary Clinton, American women's rights attorney Gloria Allred, American journalist Linda Ellerbee, and also to the detergent brand. Her activism brought her encouragement and the sexist line in the message was changed. She later appeared in the Nickelodeon show and spoke about her stand against sexism and her support for feminism.

I've seen that story on several tv shows, very impressive that she did have those ideas and thoughts at such an early age.

It wasn't meant as any sort of critical comment, I just mentioned that I had seen it. Everything doesn't have to be taken so literally.

I saw this last week on the news, i got to say i was impressed that she was actually at a young age standing up for what she thought.

I don't think so. I think she will modernize the royal family. I hope so. The Queen even changed the rule a few years ago about daughters inheriting the throne. Slow progress.

Kids that age are just parroting their parents. But I do applaud her mom for encouraging her daughter's public expression and teaching her that girls are not limited in any way.

I read yesterday that she even had her own line of clothing. She is an amazing young woman with many talents. I think Prince Harry is a very lucky man to have her as his wife.

I've been following her since it became public she was dating Harry. She is a smart and very well travelled, self made woman.

She had a lifestyle blog which was quite good- she finds the most interesting foods, vacations in the nicest and also most rustic places (she's bicycled throught Vietnam). I don't think she was "parroting" her mother, as much as she has always been a deep thinker and just all around smart cookie.

Did you know she was a "briefcase girl" on Deal or No Deal?

I can't post a link but you can google. I wish her no harm at all, but I find it ironic how she relinquished her feminist views to marry into this family. Times have changed drastically for her. Good and bad as always is the case.

@bathina I agree with her probably being an emotionally intelligent child which it seems she was but I think it is important to keep perspective that a 12 year old child is still a child. There is plenty to praise her on without going overboard.

No child at this age has the life experience or ability to reason so abstractly with societal stereotypes tied into corporate marketing plans which is the fundamental basis of even being able to form your own opinion.

More probable reality is an adult made a comment and she acted on it in a way that was encouraged because it expressed a favorable point of her view in her household. Imitation is how kids learn and obviously she did.

Members of the Royal family are not permitted to vote nor make public their political views. Markle is and has been tolerated because of Harry, they have expressed their acceptance and regard for her publicly because of Harry no matter their personal feelings. She will have no influence on anyone other than Harry. I suspect in time that will get old even for him.

@Hoovermom You are making it sound as though Meghan is being groomed to be a Stepford wife.

There are certain things she will learn as a member of the royal family that have nothing to do with vacating her "feminist" views.

So what? The fact is, she acted on it and continues to be an advocate. I don't know why you feel the need to downplay it.

@Laura14 I beg to differ on a 12 year old's ability to recognize societal stereotypes and think in a socially conscientious way. I have a 12 year old niece, 10 year old nephew and 7 1/2 year old grandson who would shock you with how they think and what they know.
