Sex abuse scandal roiling the University of Southern California

USC's Dr. George Tyndall is the GYN accused of violating female students as far back as the early '90s, with many accounts that are extremely disturbing. The university is still reeling from recent scandals and is now being drawn and quartered for keeping this doctor's actions quiet for so many years, thus allowing his access to hundreds more women.

He is said to have especially preyed on the large contigent of Chinese students, perhaps exploiting any language barrier and possible reticence to speak out. Indeed, for many students of all backgrounds, this type of exam was their first.

As we speak, more than 300 women have come forth with similar accounts, and the call for the president of USC to resign is getting louder and louder.

I saw this on GMA this morning. It was a particularly disgusting story.

I went to my college medical center once for something not so invasive and was so put off by the guy there that I never went back.

Good topic to talk to your kids and grandkids about especially if they are on their own away from home like I was.

The thing is, if you NEED care, you have to trust whomever you can get. I think a large majority of doctors out there are scummy and treating patients any way they can get away with in order to make a buck.

Also, being scummy can include those at the bottom as well as those at the top. They GYM at Hopkins who was guilty of wearing a camera around his neck while performing exams was the doctor for many women I knew via my childrens' school as well a for a family member of one of my doctors.

As an ER nurse in Baltimore City once told me "You can't get rid of sh%#. The more you try to wipe it away, the more it just spreads itself around. That's why there are so many sh%$$& doctors out there".

Never forgot that.

I think Mi State has to pay the victims of that creepy Nasser, $500 million..It sounds like a lot ,but I would rather have my life back, free of the ugly memories ,rather than the money. We know that can't happen, so ,I hope the victims fee,l at least they are being compensated. a tiny bit for. what happened to them

Gosh i.t seems like you can't trust anyone .lately. I think I am getting burned out from all of this stuff

@suzyQ3 I agree. I can never thank the Drs. enough, for the care and concern ,they gave to my husband. Everyone of them was a jewel ,and the nurses too

Me too, @suzyQ3.

It's a horrible generalization to say the majority of doctors are scummy. I've had more than my share of doctor interactions over the last couple of years. Not a single scummy in the bunch. Nothing but caring, professional treatment.

I'm glad you've had nothing but wonderful experiences. Mine, revolving the care of my child and other family members have not always been. Are there wonderful doctors out there? Of course. Just like there are wonderful people in ALL professions as well as incompetent/unqualified people in those same professions.. However, I've witnessed with my own eyes horrible care. I have medical professionals who will not use specific hospitals or medical groups because of what they know and due to what they or their family members experienced.

Remember, I did not say all. I said a large majority. Good for you that you've never had to deal with a negative experience. Doesn't meant everyone else has, however.

BTW: a doctor (or anyone in a professional setting) may be just wonderful to your face and provide great care; doesn't mean that person isn't a scumbag. Look at the Hopkins GYN....

This isn't solely about the kind of care you receive; that's what makes it so vile. It's the trust that is betrayed by someone in the medical profession; a trust given to them when a person is the most vulnerable.

My husband was in a teaching hospital, and the care and kindess he received was top notch

Our own Dr doesn't care for you while in the hsoptal. The Drs on staff ,do all of the work. I can never say enough good things about the care and kindess these people gave to us

The ER Dr ,even called a couple of times, to check up on my husband. If anyone deserves praise, they do

@SahmIam, I'm truly sorry that you and yours have had such bad experiences, but I still contend that that is not the norm -- not a large minority. I am referring solely to the care and expertise I and mine have encountered. I know virtually nothing about their lives aside from my own interactions.

Oh wow, this is horrible.

It brings to mind a gyno I had once, a few decades ago. He was just creepily touchy-feely and would compliment me on certain body parts. When he touched me it really felt creepy and wrong.

He was very well known and a 'pillar of the community'. Others had similar experiences but there was no recourse. He headed some committees and nothing could be said that would resonate with TPTB, because he was so well thought of in the community. I never went to another gyno after this.

People with power sure can get away with a lot.

Glad to hear more being called to the carpet over their abuses. Of course, these abuses are WAY worse than what I experienced at the hand of a gyno doc, so that fact does not escape me. But I remember the feeling of knowing that I had no control.

Unfortunately I've had many bad experiences with doctors, caring for my mother over the last three years. And bad experiences with people who work in their offices, in pharmacies, even a very bad hospice believe it or not.

I have one doctor of my mother's who is now her dr through the new hospice I had to get months ago. He's such a good man, and is always so supportive of me as well.

Maybe we can all agree that it appears that Dr. Tyndall, by all accounts, is one heck of a bad apple. He makes my skin crawl.
