A new water beetle species is named after him. DiCaprio launched an environmental foundation 1998 to help protect threatened ecosystems around the world. In 2016, He received an award for his work from the UN.

Leo's too pretty for this, he needs something beautiful named after him like a butterfly! I'm joking of course, I'm sure it's an honor to have even an ugly bug named for you.

Saying ugly bug reminded me of a movie we watched when I was growing up called "Summer Magic" starring Haley Mills. In it, Burl Ives sang a song called "Ugly Bug Ball." It's the story of how even an ugly bug can find love.

I sang it with my mom when I was young and later with my daughter when she was little. It's so cute!

Regardless of any hypocrisy, his work on behalf of the environment shouldn't be outright dismissed. And I can't help but notice that it is usually those who are not exactly actively concerned about the environment, to put it mildly, that are the first and maybe the only ones to make such a dig at those like DiCaprio and Gore.

And many people without big boats, or any boats, might be doing even more for the environment! (Sailboats are ok!)

Nobody expects perfect in place of hypocrisy, but I’m not striking any medals for di Caprio. He does earn a bug named after him, sure.

It certainly should be outrightly dismissed when you're one of the biggest hypocrits out there and have the gall to preach to others about what they should or shouldn't be doing, re: the environment. DiCaprio does more damage to the environment than hundreds if not thousands of people, with the lavish yacht, the worldwide traveling, etc. that his wealth enables him to do. It appears that this hypocrit's favorite saying is: do what I say, not what I do. ( But he does drive around Hollywood in a little Prius and that apparently makes up for the otherwise over-the-top hypocrisy he shows in other areas.)

And I won't even begin to get into Al Gore and his lifestyle.

It’s been my personal experience that the people who criticize the hypocrites are the same people who vote down pro environmental policies. To some extent we are all hypocrites.

I see... if you're good looking & willing to toss millions around you can lecture others about their carbon footprint, wagging your finger about how evil it is for them use fossil fuel while you're flying thousands of miles in a private jet to accept Environmental Awards, acting jobs, endless vacations, hosting a bevy of babes on yachts, owning energy sucking mansions & on & on. He's stated repeatly that the climate change crisis threatens to destroy our entire species & we must work together to make changes now ...just don't expect him or the other hyporcites to make any changes that might inconvenience them because they believe those changes are only for the peons...that's you & me. Hard to believe that his behavior is not only excused but awarded, sadly the truth doesn't matter anymore.
