Is it standard protocal to be discharged from the hospital 7 hours after delivering a baby in the UK? Or is it that way just for the Royals?

I don’t think that’s standard.

They're royals and have more than enough support at home - medically and physically. I’m sure it’s a security issue also

It is not unusual for healthy mothers and babies to be discharged from the hospital here in the US after 8 hours or so, if they request it. Many women go home ASAP.

Insurance companies must pay for home care visits if a woman decides she wants to go home before 48 hours for an uncomplicated vaginal delivery.

Kate, I assume has medical supervision at home where she can rest in peace and quiet and with privacy.

Decades ago when I had my daughter, I felt so goo,d I told my MIL I wished I could go home immediately. I did the next day. It was unheard of back then

You aren't ill, You just got all of the hard work behind you. There is no reason a healthy woman shouldn't go home..

I think they (Will and Kate) realize they monopolize that whole wing of the hospital, so they try to get themselves out of there asap so everything can get back to normal for the other patients and their visitors.

She probably would feel a lot better in her own home not worrying about somebody trying to get a pic of no telling what and seeing it in the National

Enquirer.

The Dr.'s and nurses must be searched with a fine tooth comb to make sure

they don't have a tiny camera or microphone hidden in their lapel while the woman is in labor. I wouldn't put nothing past anybody in this day and age.

At home she would be surrounded with peace and quiet and no expectations expected of her.

I would have had my hair in a ponytail . Long hair is a constant fuss.

I was wondering about that as well. Also here, you can't leave unless you have a name for your baby. It must be different for Royals........

I'm sure they have already named the baby. They just haven't released the name to the public.

Yes, it is. Because Europeans and the British don't treat childbirth like an illness. An uncomplicated childbirth isn't thought of treated like a medical procedure. The moms and the babies are discharged 6-12 hours after birth. Of course Duchess Kate will go home to plush arrangement with all the care and help anyone woman could ever need. The average woman and her baby just go home and family and friends help out but they do have a systerm where their version of a Visiting Nurse checks in on mom and baby periodically. My daughter lived in England for a couple of years and her friends over there are now having babies, I've heard how they do it.

I read that she has a medical staff of something like 20 people awaiting her return back at her home. Diana started this whole thing of leaving the hospital quickly. No doubt it is partly a security concern. Diana had to fight to have her baby at the hospital. All previous royals had been born at home. However, unlike most moms, Kate won't have to do much except maybe nurse the baby...no cooking, cleaning, watching the other children, and probably not changing diapers either. She did look beautiful when she left though, but she had help with that too!

The first thing that came to mind was how sad it was a newborn and mother are paraded about hours after delivery instead of resting and enjoying some privacy.
