I have Delta Dental through my employer and they pay $1000 per year, so if I need a crown I pay 1/2 and they pay the other 1/2 up to $1000. The 2 X per year cleanings and 1 set of x-rays per year are covered at 100%. I really can't complain. I don't have many dental issues but in the past had lots of restoration to my teeth, crowns and root canals. My teeth tend to break. I am lucky in that I don't have gum disease.

We had them and were very satisfied but then the Elks offered a better price for a met life plan and we changed.

I assume you are not talking about the dental that comes with your advantage plan, but the additional dental ins. AARP offers. What comes with our advantage plan is a yearly clean & checkup and occasional x rays only.

It is a good idea to check with any organizations you are associated with to see if they offer anything. We were really surprised to get dental ins thru the Elks.

I keep getting emails from them but IMO it is not a good deal. I finally found a plan from Humana for $22/month and it covers the basics and about 50% of the cost of a crown. So far so good.

I retired from the State of California and opted to purchase Delta Dental through VSP. I pay around $12 a month and get two cleanings a year and 80% off other work, does not include implants. I have gum disease and pay for two cleanings in addition to the two that are covered. Due to my history, I feel I am getting my money's worth.

I’ve had Delta Dental since my COBRA coverage expired a year after retirement. I pay under $40 a month for the premium plan option, and am very satisfied.

I had a 6 month checkup earlier this month, and just received the email where my claim was processed. I should receive a bill from my dentist within the next 10 days for my part which is under $25.

I had Delta Dental that I bought through their website. I paid $50.00 a month and felt it was not beneficial. I paid the premiums and the deductible on many procedures was very high. I cancelled and went to a discount dental plan from Cigna.

We lost our Dental coverage too when we went on Medicare, we took private plan with Met Life, very satisfied, we pay $760 per year for the two of us. My hubby just had a bill for $2200 worth of dental work, they paid all but $385, we were very happy.

It has been my experience that using AARP for any insurance coverage is overpriced and you get less coverage. Auto, health, dental, etc. That's just what we have found. I really don't believe they have seniors best interest at heart, only their profit margin. No senior I know has ever found a true benefit with them.

Years ago, I bought Delta Dental thru SCAN (my medicare plan) --- and all the dentists in my area were HORRIBLE. There were limited choices of dentists. So - I found a great dental office near my house and I pay out-of-pocket - and get a senior discount. You need to check which dentists u could use (there may be fewer choices than someone who has Delta Dental thru their job).

Google dentists names and see if there are complaints. You could also check them out on Yelp.
