Could you, would you unplug?

On a scale of 1-10... how uncomfortable would you be leaving your cell phone and computer at home to spend a week at a beach house, cabin or resort?

For me, it would be a 9, maybe a 10. I would not find it relaxing to be so out of touch.

I agree with you. Put me down as a 10 pls, I just don't want to be out of touch. For those of you that don't want to bring these along, I admire you greatly.

10 at our house...although I do wish cable was less expensive and we didn't pay for all the sport and cartoon channels we never watch.

I could easily leave it all at home.I just got a cell phone last summer and I am still not in love.I usually have it but it is either not charged or turned off.I feel strange talking in public on the darn thing so I have to stop what I am doing and go outside to talk.i also don’t enjoy a long conversation on it for some reason I still prefer to talk on my land line.

It would be a 1 for me.

My cell phone is never on unless I leave my home (in case of emergencies) and my laptop always stays home.

No tablets, etc. for me.

I do it all of the time. I have a a Tracfone. I only use it to make outgoing calls when I have an emergency. I use less than one hour a year in time on it. It is usually turned off. I only turn it on to make a call or when I am out and DH asks me to keep it on so he can call me. I don’t even have the phone number memorized.

i hate to be on the phone. I used to be a CS phone rep for years.

All Summer long, we are at our Lake place 4 1/2 Days a week and sometimes every day for a couple of weeks. It is in a very rural area where there is no internet connection available unless you have a satellite dish. Even phones do not pick up a connection there all of the time. No TV cable either. We get three channels with an antenna.

i always have my phone and iPad with me, but there is no WiFi connection available. I don’t like it, but I am used to it.

If I really have withdraw, I drive into a town few miles away and park in the McD parking lot and use their WiFi. It is unsecured, so I am careful. I can’t do banking, etc.

Could I unplug for one week? Yes.

The first few days are the most difficult, then it gets easier. If you are busy and having fun, you won’t even miss it, but if you are bored.....read a book.

I could easily leave my computer at home and have many times. I would never go anywhere without my cell phone for the simple reason of needing it in an emergency.

My cell phone would have to go with me for any emergencies, but I defintely don't need a computer....I am not one who is always on my phone, so it is not a problem!!

Even though my phone is only carried for emergencies, I would want it or my laptop for my music so I would say a 10. I could see doing without always checking your phone so you can really enjoy the time away but to not bring it at least your phone wouldn't be smart!

could leave the laptop but I always have my phone, why do we need to leave it at home?

directions to places, getting info, calling AAA if you might need them, etc

make dinner reservations

I believe it depends on the purpose of your phone and/or computer.

When you/others imply ‘out of touch’ does that mean you would have

no connection to any news? Like newspapers, TV, etc? Zero electronics?

For those who imply it would be easy since their phone is turned off,

would that mean no social interaction at all? Just you & the crickets.

Zero 911 access.

It’s my bank account when I want to pay a bill.

It’s your turntable when you want to listen to music.

ITA, @house_cat! It’s a high 10 on my list!

When I visit my mom out in the little farm town in the Midwest,

we have v.e.r.y limited internet, and very few people,

so yes...I kinda/sorta know what it’s like to ‘unplug’ to a certain level..

but my device is a book I can read, so I would have to have it.

As a person who can barely remember to check her phone once a day and refuses to put her life out on the internet.......as long as I was at the beach, it wouldn't bother me a bit. I like having my phone with me sometimes for security, but that's about it. I'm on my computer a lot, but that's either work related or shopping at home. Obviously, if on vacation, I wouldn't need that either!

I'm with @CANDLEQUEEN, although it would be hard for me to not have my laptop, I could do it. I don't have a smartphone but I would bring my cell phone with me just for emergencies.

I can easily unplug from my cheapie Tracfone but not having the iPad is unacceptable 😊

I read my books on it, plus communicating with family.

No computer for sure.

We need our cell phones for family issues and I would also want them with us for our own emergencies should one arise.

Our cells are not used the way most people use them anyway; just for communication with family and doctor appts., calling in for meds, etc. We don't scroll and browse and shop with them.

If there was a landline for emergencies, I'd be totally OK with no cell phone or computer. I'd miss it a bit, but not greatly.

I always have my phone, especially now that I'm looking for work but I never take my notebook or my iPad.

For my phone, it would be a 3. I have left home without it and my notebook/iPad a 1
