I retired 8 years ago and usually go to bed between 11 and 12:30; I get up between 7 and 8. When I worked, I got up at 5, so this is an improvement. If I’m not up by 8:30, DH is ready to hold a mirror under my nose. DH retired almost 4 years ago and usually goes to bed by 1; he gets up between 8 and 9. Even though we’re up, we don’t really function before 10, spending our time catching up on the news, reading, etc. We’ve found that we sleep better when we exercise - nothing complicated, just a brisk walk in the neighborhood. If the weather ever gets better around here, we’ll get more active. I’m really looking forward to going to our community pool this summer. We’re in the water most of the time we’re there and sleep like babies on pool nights.

What time usually do you get up.....what time do you go to bed?

I get up about 3:30 AM . I eat my dinner about 4pm and I am in bed by 8pm.

I do not sleep real good ...usually wake up every hour on the hour and check the time. I do not feel tired at all during the day, and have good energy, so, I must sleep enough to get rested.

I like getting up early....early morning is my favorite time of the day. I get a lot of things done and like watching the sunrise.

My Husband( also retired) sleeps in until about 8am....goes to bed about 9PM. He also naps during the day.....we have very different schedules! 😄

I'm usually in bed by eleven. I don't have an exact schedule so it all depends on how I feel. Usually up around seven, although sometimes nine or ten. I sleep very well.

Husband stays up late and sleeps till at least noon. We live a very relaxed lifestyle.

I am a night owl, always was. I usually don't fall asleep until 3am and don't get up before 10am unless I have an early appointment somewhere. I don't worry about sleeping through the night, if I'm tired during the day I will crawl in bed and sleep a few hours. I think people can worry too much about getting enough sleep and that makes things worse IMO. After all, we are retired we can sleep any time we want.

When I worked, I had to get up really early and it took a couple of years to change that pattern. I like being able to stay up longer and sleep till 8 or ometimes even 9.

A typical day for me except for Sunday is to get up around 6 AM and work out with a DVD or exercise show on PBS. DH is usually up around 7 and we have breakfast. Sundays we both get up around 6:30 and I get dressed up for our 8 AM church service.

Great post - I just retired - last day of work was April 2. And I thought my sleeping pattern would be better, but it's not. My BF still works - he's up by 4am, and at work by 6.

Guess I'll just have to see what my body eases into.

I am retired but DH is not and travels most of the week, so I am usually home with the pets. I try to get to bed about 11:30 p.m. and read for about an hour. Once I get to sleep, I stay asleep until one of the pets wakes me up. I am then up between 5 a.m. (not by choice) and 7:a.m. If I get up at 5 to let the dog out, then I take a little nap in my recliner for about an hour or so.

My days are busy and I think that is why I sleep so well. My typical day is working out at the Y, taking art classes, volunteering where I teach balance classes at assisted living centers, and cooking and baking.

I like to stay up late - always have. I try and go to sleep about 2AM. And then I get up about 7 AM.

I used to get up at 5AM when I worked. So 7 AM seems to be "sleeping in". But I figure the longer I am retired maybe it will creep closer to 8 AM.

Thankfully my husband gets up between 5 and 6 AM to walk the dog. Usually the dog is up and ready to go at that time. So if my husband is away, I get up early for the dog.

I'm semi retired. I go to bed at 10 and get up at 6. If I plan to go out at night, I have to squeeze in a late afternoon nap, or at least lie down and rest for 30 minutes.

I'm usually wiped out on Fridays! Often don't make it past 9, if I haven't had a nap.

Husband retired a year ago but he is up at 5:30 every morning, he says he likes his quiet time, still gets the newspaper, why? computer has up to date info of sports scores. coffee & gets on computer, me go to bed at 1am up at 9am. My problem is cooking, why for 2 people. He loves going to late lunch but most times I rather cook so after a huge restaurant lunch I am tired so that ruins my day. He wants to move to 55 community with golf course but we looked many times, they are in the middle of no where here. I don't like it. Love being close to shopping & drs. HOA's are expensive & every class you take is more money. I need to look into a senior activity center for him with golf & classes but we can stay in our house. My g/f's husband just retired 1 week ago at the age of 70yrs. Can't wait to talk to her but she has a shore house & he loves to remodel things. With 2 houses he must be busy. Finding out some men are older retire & wife still working which makes things not good. If you both retire same time it is better. Love shopping mid week & we stay home on weekends, less traffic & stress.

I record so many tv shows & love late nite seems my husband is an early bird. It works for us. Now all his 10 suits that he never wears need to go, if I can get him to part with that would be something. Why is he hanging on to them.? I can see hanging to at least 3 of them. How about the 20 ties he has? Yep hang on you never know! I got rid of so much in closets. He won't part with his clothes.
