New cell number

Great package but had to change my cell phone number. All was well until this evening. Strange message. Popped up. Did not recognize number. Didn't seem like spam but referred to how GOOD MY ROOM LOOKED. Wondering if anyone has advice. A bit scary. Could they be looking at me. LOL. I can block with MR. NUMBER but wondering if I might be getting someone elses messages. Previous person.

Anyone have contacts on phone from previous owner.

This is a common occurrence and shouldn't be anything to be frightened about. It could have been as you suggested or a misdial.

Wrong numbers still exist, people still misdial....even with cell phones.

@bonnielu Callers dial random numbers and they even spoof numbers, i.e., I was at my doctor's office when I got a call on my cell from a friend's number. It was not her calling at all. Someone had spoofed her number and was calling me about a scam they were trying to pull. She told me that she was playing cards once and the same thing happened to her with a number she recognized but it was not the person whose number she knew, but a caller who had spoofed her number and implied they could see her. It is meant to intimidate and scare people. These callers are everywhere, in our country, in foreign countries and some of them have big networks which do this. No, they can't see you and they don't know you. Block the number.

My husband keeps getting a call on his cell, a couple of times a day and decided to call it back.

He got a real live person and when he asked the guy why he kept calling he told him his number had been spoofed. I felt bad for the guy. If it were me, I would have changed my number but I know what a pita that can be.

@bonnielu, when I got a new cell number, it was one used by someone who had left piles of bills so I was getting calls from collection agencies. Since I had changed everything to the new number, I decided to keep it. In Canada there is a law that once you advise collection agencies that there is an issue, they have to stop calling you. Eventually it got cleared up. LM

I got a new cell number about 12 years ago and apparently it belonged to a “Robert” who left unpaid bills or something. Over time the calls stopped. If I don’t recognize a number I don’t answer. If it’s important they will leave a message. DH and I receive several calls daily (3-4) from our area code and first 3 numbers of our cell phone number. We don’t answer those calls either. The scams and spams never stop. The older you get the more unnerving it becomes.

I had to change my landline # because I kept getting calls for somebody who didn't pay her bills and I think she had a warrant out for her arrest. Scared the out of me. I changed that # cost me money, but, I did it.

Now, some time later I still get a few with the gals last name. Thank God I have call blocker (1 they sold yesterday) and they won't be calling back.

I get wrong texts from time to time. One person it took me sending them two texts back that yes they were wrong and not giving airport pickup instructions to the right person. Whoever it was finally realized and text back they were sorry. Would have really been sorry waiting around the airport with no ride.

@OKPrincess The same thing happens to me. When I get a call on my home land line it has those 3 exchange numbers, when I get one on my cell it has those 3 numbers, and when I get one on my work phone it also has those 3 numbers!

I sure don’t Know what’s happening but if a name doesn’t show up too bad. Can’t risk these scams coming at us so quickly. The news said we are more likely to answer if area code and exchange closely resembles ours.

@OKPrincess That's what I thought too......that they figure you will think it's someone you know, or a local business you deal with, when you see a familiar exchange on the caller ID.
