Ordering a wedding dress from Amazon

I noticed recently that Amazon sells wedding dresses. And they are cheap. Several were less than 100.00. Any ideas on just how they do that? They look pretty online (some anyway).

Maybe not, @wishmoon. I don't know, I guess I am just in a bit of shock at the price. I've been wedding dress shopping lately, and nothing was less than 1,000.00. It seems like the fabric itself, and the lace would cost more than a hundred bucks.

all i can think of is all those stories that have been in the net news, programs (Judge Judy shows) the picture is absolutely beautiful but what is sent is a mess, nothing at all like the photo shown.

I would read the reviews, I have ordered clothing from Amazon and it was 2-3 sizes smaller than marked

This is just a wild guess, but I doubt if anyone buying a wedding gown for less than a $100 on Amazon is walking into a real solid marriage.

That is the most judgmental thing I've ever heard.

I didn't have a wedding dress at all, and have been married for over 25 years.

The ones starting on rocky ground are those investing tens of thousands of dollars (or more) into weddings and being consumed for sometimes years with the planning and spending simply to show off. Our extended family has had three of those kinds of 'relationships' come to an end in the last couple of years. They should have worried less about the dress (and all the rest of it) and thought about the relationship.

I don't know how Amazon is offering dresses that cheap, but sounds like a great option for those thinking a dress is an important part of that day, but want to stay in a budget. I mean really, what good is the dress after that day? No one wants it later. Why invest so much in it?

I agree @Mominohio that the focus is sadly, on the wedding and all the hoopla instead of the married life that is going to follow. If I could have just woke up that morning and been married, I would have opted for that. Going in debt for a wedding and reception is a crime. Keeping up with the Jones or better yet, outdoing them is so important to so many. That is so tiny in the great scheme of things. Hopefully, they will eventually find that out.

I made the comment that the poster's comment was rude. I also added that when I got married, I wore a pantsuit from the mall. We just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary - rock solid??? - you betcha!

Before you buy make sure you have a good tailor in your community to help you get a proper fitting. I just bought my summer, cap sleeve, knee length, mother of the bride dress that way. BTW the alterations are close to the online price of my dress.

Read the reviews. There are sites on the net informing about them. Some are overseas where labor is cheap.

Some reputable vendors sell on Amazon. I bought a Grandmother of the Groom dress that was beautiful and priced fair.

My guess is that they are massed produced. When you purchase a dress at bridal shop, you try on a sample and your dress is made for you.

A dress from Amazon will have to be altered to fit you by your own seamstress, which is expensive and the the dress will probably made from cheap materials instead of natural fibers and imported lace.

if you are only going to get a one time use from it, it might be a good choice for some brides.

my daughters best friend got her dress at a second hand shop for $30 and it looked magnificent on her. No alterations needed and the dress was cleaned and pressed.

I totally agree and know they will live and learn. DIL finally admitted that the $50k her parents spent could have been a deposit on a condo her in NY.

Well, I borrowed a wedding dress and I've been married over 30 years. I certainly don't think one has to spend a lot of money on a wedding dress or wedding for that matter, and appologize if it seemed thats what I was implying. I've known couples who just went to a justice of the peace and they'be been married longer than I have been.

Its just I honest to goodness am wondering how they can be SO CHEAP on Amazon? There are lots of lace on some of these beauties. And some of the dresses do have a lot of stars, so the buyers have obviously been happy.

I might just order one for myself, what a funny joke to play on dh!!!!! He could come home from work, and here I'd be in a wedding dress. He's think I'd lost my mind for sure

One of my daughter's friends purchased a white prom gown to wear as her wedding gown. Cost: $72. The only thing she added was the veil.
