I Got Run Off The Road Today

I was on my way home today and about two minutes from my house. There was a car coming toward me halfway in my lane. I had to go off the road to avoid getting hit. She was doing something other than driving, but I'm not sure what. She may have been talking to a passenger or talking on her phone. She finally saw me after she would have hit me had I not gone off the road. It's just grass that I had to get over in fortunately. Scared me!

In a case like this when it is impossible to take a picture of her license plate, I would have tried to get back onto the road as quickly as I could so I could get her license and report it to the police. Dash cams too come in handy.

this is not really a SAFE choice......especially in this day and age. also, i honestly dont think that the police would do a thing in this situation.

I was never run off the road, but this goes to show you how childish men can be. My husband drives a truck and there were these kids in a souped up sports car next to us on a major highway stopped at a light. If you can imagine, my husband challenged the kid in the sports car. They revved their engines and of course the kid left my nutty husband in the dust. I was so surprised my husband would do something like that, I wanted to strangle him. I would never think of challenging another driver in any way and now I worry that my husband would.

@NickNackglad you are ok. Some drivers are just plain crazy. Very frustrating, but there’s not much we can do about it except give them space on the road whenever possible.

So sorry that this happened to you!! I'm glad you're O.K.! I saw a woman the other day who was eating, drinking, and texting while "driving!" I can't believe these people are so stupid and selfish that they endanger others' lives!

were you not providing the needed attention to your driving?

Eyes should be on the road....not the gal next to you.

So glad you are ok and had the room to get over. I am sure you are shaken up and will think about this whenever you drive in that spot again. It has happened to me twice and I am thankful I was also able to get over in time. Once was someone passing another car on a hill and I had to react immediately and pull over to the right. The other time was a neighbor driving down my street looking at her phone. Sadly, I still see her checking her phone the minute she leaves her driveway. Hopefully you can relax and just know that by being aware and attentive you saved yourself and others.

@NickNack, so glad that you made it home safely. DH and I were just discussing at dinner how crazy the roads are today. I don't do much driving except to go to the Y, grocery, and art class, so I don't see it too much; but, we have talked about driving on vacation and I get really nervous on the roads because of other drivers. I think I need to drive a tank.

You don't happen to live in the Atlanta area do you? Just asking because LR was doing another of her live chats while driving from wherever her dad lives to the airport in Atlanta and doing a lot of looking at and chatting with her passenger as well as frequently checking herself out in her dashboard monitor......so maybe it was her.

It is really dangerous because there is a percentage of the population who still text and drive.

I was a nervous wreck having a screen on my dashboard. I put a black microfiber cloth on it until I got used to it being there lol.

I wouldn't chase anyone either, there's usually an opening to snap a picture of the rear of the car. I would report her anyway to the police despite those who think it's useless. I've been told by the police that you can place a 911 call while you're driving and I'd do that once I got the information.
