Oh darn, Power just went out

Well at least I was prepared, with cell phone charged and a flashlight near by. We're under severe wind conditions and were warned about downed trees, so I guess that is what occurred. But I think this is going to take a while to restore as the lines travel throughout wooded areas. And with these conditions I hate to see the linemen putting themselves in any kind of danger.

Only concern is how long the frig will keep cold enough to be safe and remember not to flush the toilet (on a well).

it rained here in the baltimore area on and off today and it was definitely heavier tonight. have not noticed our winds picking up yet, but they are due to anytime now. they said we may eve get some gusts up to 70 mph.

phones are charged, tablets are charged, multiple chargers are charged. hopefully though we will not lose power.

@qualitygal we're in SW Pennsylvania. The power came back on at 7:30 am. It is pretty nippy in the house, 58 degrees. We only got a dusting of snow. The high winds were supposed to be with us until 10am today, but they dissapated about 3:00 am.

Hi @Allegheny ..... I'm always concerned about loosing heat and food in the refrigerator/freezer spoiling. So after Sandy DH and I had a standby generator installed. Glad your power was restored already.

We are in the middle of this nor'easter now (northern part of NJ). It's pretty bad out already ... and the winds are supposed to pick up later on today

What brand of stand-by generator do you have? Though we don't lose power often, we have thought about it especially since we are on a well.

Ours went out about 1AM, EST - it was out for about an hour and a half. Of course, we're not out of the woods yet - the winds here in the Piedmont of VA are strong still.

I'm glad I cleared off the deck and porch, of things that could blow.

I hear you about the perils of pump systems. We have a pressure sewer system. We have to be very conservative in times of no power, or wastewater doesn't get discharged to the public sewer.

we have a stand-by generator....we lose our power alot and always takes day to come back on....got tired of throwing out food....brand is Generac...

Our power went out around 8am. Snow was swirling earlier but nothing on the ground. It is actually sunny right now. They have closed most of the major school systems in this area. Hopefully it won't last long. Ran out to dunkin donuts to get a box of hot coffee. Remind me next time to buy one if those large battery chargers when qvc had them on.....maybe even two.

The kids are being sent home from school here in PA.

The winds are really whipping and our power has flickered a few times this

morning.

All we have is a dusting of snow in the grass. The higher elevations in PA are

getting from 8 to 12 inches of snow today. Classes for them for today were

cancelled last evening.

So ready for Spring!!!

Crazy strong winds here right now; they closed DC Fed Govt today and most schools and businesses. Our lights have been blinking, hope we don’t lose power; I was actually planning to cook a real dinner tonight lol.

@Mj12, maybe God is trying to tell you something.

We had our bad weather yesterday evening and overnight. The sun keeps coming out now but it's cold. It started to change from rain to freezing rain just as we left work and then shortly after changed to snow. It seemed to snow and blow a lot but didn't accumulate to much here.

One of my co-workers was without power for about 6 hours. Ours never so much as flickered and she's about a mile from me.

That's for sure. We are in Florida and bought a Generac Whole House generator. Best money spent EVER. The only problem is, it's starting to rust around the base. When we bought it about 10 years ago, they didn't have acrylic or whatever they are made of now. It's got to be replaced and DH is looking around to see where he can find something....... If not, then he will have to re-finish it himself and make it look like new again.

I absolutely love, love, love, it. As soon as the lights go out, the lights come one again.

I’m in the Piedmont area of NC and our power was out today due to heavy winds. The wind blew a power line onto a bus. No one was hurt, fortunately.
