New Words

We all know how much TV salesperson love to fabricate new words but the Laurie Felt vendor came up with one that really got my attention, optionality. They seem to think they can add "ality" to any word and it makes perfect sense.

That's how words get added to the dictionary. Somebody makes up a word others repeat it until it official.

I think it's someone's option to use the word optionality!! just couldn't resist!

That's a new one! I have an all-time favorite amusingly, pompously nutty word, that I think comes out of the world of bureaucracy rather than sales. The word is "efforting", as in "We are tirelessly efforting on that project" (or something like that.) Sounds so much more "dressed-up" than working or doing...

@Pook thank you for posting this. I found the same:

optionality (countable and uncountable, plural optionalities)

(finance, business) The value of additional optional investment opportunities available only after having made an initial investment. The short-term payoff for this is modest, but the optionality value is enormous.
Quality or state in which choice or discretion is allowed. Some offices do not follow the corporate procedure, due to a culture of optionality.
