@cherry Thanks for posting. I can't help but get misty eyed on this topic. My heart goes out to these siblings (some whom are already adults). God willing they all find a stable environment in which they can navigate the journey of learning to live a normal life; the hours of mental health care each and every one of them need; and recovering from the years of physical neglect to their bodies. I think these poor souls are years away from grasping the concept of a happy life.

They are making plans for college, and I think that is a very good sign. To be able to move foward, is such a healthy thing

College?? I would think adults that never have gone to school... used a computer or anything and have been tied up their whole lives and starved would not be quite ready for college! Education for sure... but probably not college courses!

They could read and write, they kept journals. One of them actually did attend college for a while @SeaMaiden

@cherry I still think college is a stretch... keeping a journal and being able to read and write does not college material make.

They could be highly intelligent kids and for all we know, it will be computer courses

I think they will require years of counseling to overcome what has happened to them. Will they ever be able to live a normal life?

@RainCityWoman the human spirit is resilient. People came back from the hell of concentration camps to live ,and marry, and build a life for themselves.

The fact one of them planned an escape, an carried it out, shows a lot of courage ,and fortitude

When they are fed, and encouraged ,and shown kindness ,it might be a tonic for their spirits. I will keep my hopes for them high ,as they begin their journey

@cherry, I think that they're going to need a great deal of help. They were born and bred in what seems to have been a household of horrors. It's pretty much all they've known, with brief exceptions.

We are to some extent indelibly forged by our childhood experiences in ways that we probably don't even realize or, in some cases, want to acknowledge.

@suzyQ3 they have long way to go for sure, but I still am rooting for them. Kindness and patience will help, and it sounds like they are getting a lot of that, and enough to eat, and showers and clean clothing. Learning can be a road out of hell, and they seem to embrace that part of life. I will keep them in my prayers

@Bri36. Oh yes, definitely. I think,the very youngest ones will have a bit of any easier time than the older ones. Less time with the parents for abuse and brainwashing.

I always expect the worse. Every once in a while, I am happily disappointed. :-)
