HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU?????????????

I love eBay and got a jacket which came today.....here is the rub----NO POCKETS!!!!! Did your ever experience this and why I ask, would a jacket NOT HAVE POCKETS. Never ever would have dreamed this would happen--I did write back and they don't consider this a defect!!! Who wants a coat with no pockets and this was NOT IN THE DESCRPTION!!!

Next time you'll remember to ask about pockets, especially if it's not mentioned in the description. It's true, it's not a defect. QVC sold a very popular suede jacket that had no pockets.

A buyer doesn't have to say what a clothing item DOESN'T have in a listing. You just describe the item as it is. If not described in the listing, it is up to the buyer to ask questions.

i will buy coats and sweaters with no pockets. i hate pants with pockets (except for jeans). i dont put items in pockets because i dont need a bulky look. i always have a purse.

i read the descriptions and if it doesnt say pockets, then i assume that the garment doesnt have them. if i am in question, i ask a question.

So there were no pix for you to carefully check? Did you ask questions before buying? I don't use pockets so I would not care, but I would ask about any such features that are important to me. Doesn't sound as if the seller did anything wrong at all since pockets are not required and, thus, the jacket was not defective.

@libbyannE The buyer should certainly have asked. But that said, I can see pockets not showing up on photos if the jacket was black.

I'm with you - would just expect pockets. Not your fault and I wouldn't expect the seller to stress w/pockets. Buttons - do you have to ask that too?

@RINGER If the listing said it had pockets, then you would have a case.....or if you asked the seller directly it the coat had pockets and the seller told you YES....THEN you would have a case. But if no pockets were mentioned the discription of the jacket...and the picture of the jacket showed no pockets....then there you go.....you are out of luck.

I would suppose if the picture of the jacket showed pockets you might have a case....did it?

I agree with the OP, that I would never think of a coat without pockets. Over the years buying on Ebay, I have learned a lesson. You need to look at pictures carefully and ask questions. However, I wouldn't think to ask about pockets but I will so now

@RINGER In all seriousness, did you inquire if the jacket was refundable or did the seller indicate final sale? Unless that seller indicated that the jacket had pockets it is not a defect.

I understand your frustration but lesson learned: ask questions, make sure returns are offered and not just for defects BEFORE buying.

Caveat emptor and all that.

Why would they consider it a defect??? The coat was designed that way but I admit, I've never seen outerwear that didn't have pockets.

I don't consider it a defect either. That particular style of jacket apparently doesn't have pockets. I think the only way you would have a legitimate complaint is if the description said it has pockets and it doesn't. Or if you had asked, and the seller said that it does.

Descriptions describe features of the item, not features they don't have! Sellers are not mindreaders - They can't know what you're assuming or what you want. It's always best to read the description thoroughly and ask questions if a feature that isn't mentioned is important to you.

(I'm not understanding why you think no one would want a jacket without pockets or why a jacket would not have them. Clearly they're important to you, but tastes and styles vary.)

Yes, if buttons are important and not included in the description, I would absolutely advise asking. Not every jacket has buttons. Some have zippers, some have snaps, some have a combination, and some aren't meant to close at all.

If no pockets were a dealbreaker for me, I would have asked before buying. (It's extremely easy to ask a seller a question on ebay.) There are plenty of jackets that don't have buttons or pockets. It's up to the buyer to know what they're buying.

I have a lot of jackets and two coats w/o pockets. Generally, I don't like pockets in my clothes and leave them sewn shut.

I have friends who own a high-end clothing store, and they have mentioned that they have several customers who do the same.

Believe I purchased slacks once some years ago which arrived sans pockets, but I blame myself for not checking into this before making the purchase.

Also, kindly remember that in order to ever increase profit margins beyond the ceiling, pockets are being designed "out" of garments to cut costs. Dollars to doughnuts that's exactly what occurred to your garment and, of course, they're not going to publicize that fact.

If it was my jacket or coat, not sure what you purchase, as both terms were used, I would add my own pockets, as I know how to do that. If you like you garment a lot, take it to a tailor, not a good cleaners with a seamstress, and have pockets added.
