Sam, potassium, if it runs too high, can kill a person. I imagine that it could do the same to an animal. It interferes with the electrical conduction of the heart. The only way that I knew this as that when my mother was put on a particular type of heart med, she had hyperkalemia (high potassium) and her cardiologist was very, very concerned. Had it not dropped, he'd have put her in the ER. Has Schmoo has any bloodwork lately to check his potassium levels? Just a thought. Remember, I am not a vet, but I've had lots of illnesses in our family, both of two legged and four legged members, so just trying to be of help.

If Schmoo is often constipated, go to "allergicpet.com" and take a look at their vet select anti-constipation formula. The phone number to order is 843-881-5500. This is safe because it is vet formulated and made in the USA. It can be put in wetfood, a couple of drops per serving, and it really keeps them regular. It's been a godsend to my cat with IBD. Run it by your vet. Hope this helps you and Schmoo.

PS. It is very expensive, about $44 dollars, with SH for a one oz. bottle, but that will last a very long time. It says to give it by mouth, but it is much safer to add it to the food as one avoids the stress to the cat as well as the possibility of aspiration pneumonia. Good luck.
