This is to add to what @handygal2 shared on the ranking of the states for retirement......

Well here's the top cities....interesting that most of the cities are either in Florida, Texas, or Pennsyvania......yet Texas ranked 22nd on the state list...

I wasn't expecting to see any of these places especially Washington DC. Not one of these places to retire would be my choice.

That is not correct, I live in DC and it is EXPENSIVE and everyone I work with who retires MOVES from DC to Florida or another state.

No one stays here unless they need a lot of assistance, meaning home care assistance, transportation services etc.

Where I live and where I'm from - both on the list.

I will say - other than weather - Pittsburgh was a wonderful place to grow up and a wonderful place to spend our adult working lives. It should be on every list of good places to live at any age. Pittsburgh's only real downside is the horrible weather -- really really horrible weather.

I don't believe this list means the best places for people to move to for retirement.

I believe this type of list is meant for people who are already living there.

Pittsburgh is great but as @151949 said the weather can be horrible.

So while those living or have lived there see the potential, others would never move there just because a list says it's beneficial to retirees.

So for those who feel they would never move to TX or FL, that's fine. The list isn't about moving there.

Sarasota-Bradenton area is nice. We looked there before we moved here. Fort Myers area is growing too fast, but I still enjoy living here. DC ? Really ?

Thank goodness when I retired I wasn't given that list of where to live. Neither one of those states is where I would choose to spend my retirement years.

The entire west coast of Florida from Naples up to Tampa and beyond is growing like wild.

Well, that's an interesting list. None of those places would appeal to me at all.

But then, we've seen a lot of lists lately and they are all different, so I wonder what the bend is on what cities are chosen. It doesn't make much sense.

Yeah, that's a good point! I had not even thought about that. I wouldn't live in any of those places, anyway, but economics is a HUGE consideration!

@Spurt: Thanks for posting this. It's more useful than the list of states, as cities vary greatly within each state. Since climate is a very important factor to me, l would have to rule out Lancaster, PA; Grand Rapids, MI; and Pittsburgh, PA. It doesn't surprise me that cities in both Texas and Florida are represented.
