Postage Rate Increase on Jan. 21st?

I read about the proposed rate increase (to 50 cents for first class mail stamps and other increases) back in October but see nothing about it now! I even went to the USPS website to look and there is no prominent (home page) announcement about it.

Does anyone know whether those proposed rate hikes were adopted and going into effect on Sunday? If so, I'm buying more Forever stamps tomorrow (Friday)!

@PearleeThanks for the reminder! Have been meaning to mail in my check to re-order additional stamps. Guess I'm too late to do that! A quick trip to the PO tomorrow will take care of my needs for a while plus I love selecting various sheets of forever stamps.

@sunshine45 I saw that online, but it talks about "proposed prices" and also states: "The PRC will review the prices before they are scheduled to take effect on Jan. 21, 2018." So that didn't seem definitive to me - it was the proposal that still had to be reviewed and approved.

@ Pearley I'm just about out of stamps anyway and was planning to mail in the form. Might was well do it when we have a 40+ degree day in Lincoln! Love to send cards and write notes to family and friends so I buy a lot at a time.

lots of sites have confirmed the information. i can post more links, but they all pretty much confirm the increase. you could also call your local post office to confirm.

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will implement new postage rates for several mailing and shipping products on Sunday, January 21, 2018.

@sunshine45 I can't ever get through by telephone to any local post office. They never pick it up -- it just rings and rings.

@BirkiLady I ordered some forever stamps online. The Elvis stamps are nice...as are the Janis Joplin stamps!

There was a sign in the PO today my hubby said they are going up..

I have to laugh a few years ago maybe around 8 or so, a friend of ours who is a rural mail man was standing behind me and I didn't know it. I was talking to a lady seated next to me and we were talking about stamps, I said since I pay my bills online and now only email never send letters I hadn't bought a stamp for maybe 2 years.......Well he said " YOU ARE THE REASON THE PO IS IN SUCH POOR SHAPE" I didn't really know what to say to him except, I dont get paper mail much anymore and so I would say I am saving trees.......?? I guess...

I'm glad they're picking an even number. I don't mind the increase. We still mail all our bills. I refuse to do bill pay online. The only thing that comes out of our account "automatically" is Netflix. (As far as paper ie the paper bills, we recycle everything recyclable here)

Yes the rates are increasing. I went to the PO today to send off a package, and heard of the increase. Bought a roll of stamps...I was almost out.

I rarely mail letters and expect the forever stamps I already have to last me for years.

I’m not sure why we should pay more for increasingly bad mail service...
