I did something today that I thought I would never do

I dropped my cell phone into a toilet! I usually never have my phone in my pants pocket....circumstances were different today and I had to have it close by.

I immediately grabbed it, dried it off, and my friend got me some rice. It's still alive, but acting a bit wonky.

I checked the online info for tips and the number 1 tip seems to be to remove the battery, but you can't do that with an iPhone.

I may need to buy a new phone tomorrow. Was not planning on this! My husband and son wrecked phones this way in the past.

Yes...that's actually how one of my husband's phones met its end.

I got mine out of the water immediately. But it may have still gotten too much water. I dug a few rice grains out of the charging port, and they were wet, which makes me think some water got inside.

It absorbs the moisture. This friend used to work for Apple. She was right on it!

I did that with my BIL's cell phone.

He loved me all the more when I assured him it really was clean toilet water.

@september, so sorry that happened. Doesn't Lori Greiner sell a product to take care of phones that have gotten wet? Also, I always keep those silicone packets that come in just about everything today. You might try packing your phone with them, if you have any, along with the rice.

Lol! This happened with a clean bowl. I heard a clunk and thought I'd knocked something over in friend's bathroom. Then I saw my phone floating in the bowl!

I had some of those packets that came with Christmas gifts. Gone now. Keeping the phone in a bag of rice for as long as I can.

My husband ruined his Iphone by dropping it into the toilet at the office a few years ago. By the time I googled what to do, he had already broken the cardinal rule: Don't turn the phone on! He had turned it on and left it on all day. Rice doesn't work if you've turned it on.

Then a year or so later, my Iphone fell out of my jacket pocket into a toilet. I immediately turned it off and dried it as best I could with the paper towels in the restroom. My friend kept urging me to turn it on to see if it still worked, but I resisted. It sat in my purse ( I know, yuck) wrapped in paper towels while I attended an all day event. When I got home I buried it in dry rice for 48 hours. Took it out and all was fine. That was about 18 months ago, so I can safely say it worked. Of course, newer model IPhones are water resistant, but ours were the last model that wasn't.

BTW I wiped that sucker down with lots and lots of Lysol wipes, lol.

One day while I was sitting in a food court, I noticed this lady's nipple area was blinking white.

Curosity got the best of me, so I got up, went to the table she was sitting at & asked her why her nipple was blinking.

She was mortified!!!!! She dipped in her bra & pulled out her cell phone. She had accidently set her phone to flash light instead of buzz to alert her to calls.

I hate it when that happens!

It did happen to me once and just like others said, I kept it in a lot of rice for a few days and it was ok! So maybe just keep trying and keep in in there (I mean the rice!)for a day or 2 longer.

@september, at least if you do have to buy a new one, they are water-resistant these days, even iPhones.

The rice might well do it (does for many people) but it can take 2-3 days to dry out all the way (or as much as it’s going to). Good luck!

Mine was already turned on...I've been afarid to turn it off, in case it never comes back to life again keeping it in the rice until morning.

Yes, my son has a galaxy that he just washes off after the kids get it yucky.

Is it the iPhone 8 that is water resistant? Not sure I want wireless charging and earbuds. I have the iPhone 6 plus now. Didn't think I'd need a new phone for a while so I'm not familiar with the later models.

@september When I googled, the 7 models are also resistant, though the 8 models may be more resistant, not sure. So you could buy a 7 if you didn’t want to buy new.

@Moonchilde. I think I'd be fine with the 7 if it would save me money that I wasn't planning to spend! Water resistence would be an added advantage, although I've never cared about that until today. Live and learn...
