Net Neutrality

Is there any good reason not to have net neutrality? Supposedly, taking it away will allow Verizon and others to slow down our computers and charge extra for certain access. Is that correct?

I think Verizon is already doing this, we used to have them for DSL service and when we ditched our satelite tv service, all of sudden we couldn't access the internet on any device. When we called to cancel they tried to push into a higher priced and supposedly faster service.

I do remember having it years ago for one site I visited, it was incredibly high, then it went back to free. I assume people just refused to pay for it.

Do you think it is because they are losing revenue from their cable TV business?

I just hate the fact they bundle everything ,and you can't seem to opt out very easily

Why can't we just buy what we want? I don't even like 99% of their programs and don't watch them

I usually use youtube for music but my daughter got me Amazon music for the year so I'm covered there.

I use it a lot for cooking, fitness and yoga, not sure if I'd be willing to pay for content though.....

I am leery of it. Isn’t it going to make the internet like cable tv? Instead of paying for channels you have to pay for access to the websites you want? I guess I think things are fine the way they are. Verizon already gets enough of my money. Just leave it alone.

Net neutrality has only been in effect for a couple of years, so I'm not sure its repeal will have the effect some expect. I don't think this will affect the consumers in terms of them having to pay for access. It has something to do with the speed with which various players on the Internet operate. I can't say which system is best, but I do know none of this was happening before net neutrality went into effect. This is an extremely complex situation, and I have yet to read a news report that explains it clearly.

@Noel7 Can you give us info about sites charging us to use them because of net neutrality? I haven't heard that this was an issue. It's my understanding that it's a matter between the Internet provider and various players on the Internet. I never pay when a site puts up a pay wall. I pay enough for my service as it is.

Can you give us links to articles about the speed and access fees, @Noel7? I've struggled to understand this issue. Net neutrality only went into effect a few years ago, maybe five. It was enacted by the FCC and recently repealed by them.
