I just read that our local KMartwill be closing in April. I'm not surprised, but I will miss it, because Walmart is a pain to get around, and this leaves no competition. This storehasbeen going downhill the last few years, and not much was done to improve the situation. In a small community like mineany closing makes a difference.

Same here. Disappointing to lose Kmart since it was there before walmart. Also losing the local sears. This makes shopping locally so difficult since there isn't much else here.

We lost our last K-mart last year. We use to have 2 in our area. The other one folded up about 15-20 years ago. K-Mart just couldn't keep up with technology. A lot of people shopped there as it was the one that was located near a residential area. I seen on TV today on the news they are closing 34 K-Marts. I would imagine yours is one of those.

They closed a Kmart close to where I live about two years ago ago. Now there is a Marshalls, a home Goods Store and Steinmart In it’s place.

Now another one is scheduled to close in April. I don’t shop at Kmart often, but if I need to, there is still another one 20 minutes away. They seem to have so many stores in the same area. Walmart does too. It doesn't make sense.

@QVCkitty1, I think we might be neighbors! My town is now in the same situation, Kmart closing in early April leaving only Walmart for an all purpose store.

Coincidentally I was looking for nearby Kmart locations because the local Kmart did not have the quantity of an item I wanted. The nearest Kmart will be just over 40 miles away.

ETA: I forgot to mention that when I was doing a location search based on zip code my store is no longer listed. I took that as absolute confirmation that the store will close.

For department stores my small town has only Bealls & bealls outlet and a walmart. I have pretty much figured out that Bealls are kinda an outlet store. You can't go back and find something again. Prices there are very decent though for pretty good quality goods.

If we want to go to stores like Macys, Dillards ,Neiman Marcus or JC Penney they are about a 45 min drive away.

I stopped shopping at the LA K-Mart about 20 years ago. All the SoCal stores were shoddy (never spent any $$ on paint, new flooring) and frankly, always dirty or dirty-appearing. Full of multi-generational families from new baby to great-grandma all walking through the store together en masse with the toddlers running around screaming. And many shoppers running screaming in the opposite direction.

In the country, our K-Mart is utter kwap. It’s disgusting. And it will stay open because there is a large customer base locally that supports it. I can’t stand to even go in.

@Moonchilde Sounds just like my Kmart. Won't go there even if it is two miles away. I drive to the mall to go to Target which is seven miles away.

All of my shopping except grocery & Rxs ranges from 10-25 miles. No quickies for me. I think our two closest Targets are about 12-14 mi in opposite directions.

KMart has deteoriated in recent decades. They are not remodeling the stores. It's as though they have given up and see the writing on the wall. Unfortunately I think within 10 years all Kmarts and Sears will be shuttered.

Our area had two KMarts that closed when they built a super store in the newer shopping district, and then that even closed well over a decade ago. Nearest one now is like an hour away.

Gotta say, I don't miss it, and when we are in a town with one, I stop in and realize why they are gone from our area. Little selection, poor quality.

Our Kmart is also closing (S. Cal). I hate to hear that. I didn't shop there a lot, but I have bought casual clothes and shoes there in the past. When we moved here in 1993 it was a thriving store.

Our K mart is on the list...leaving us with Target and Walmart.....I see Sears in our Mall going next....

My Kmart closed recently and I don't miss it at all. I went there when my mother was alive and in a nursing home. I bought her clothes there (Basic Edition brand). If I bought better brands and nicer items from other stores, they would

"disappear" in the nursing home even though everything had her name on it,

Our Kmart was a dinosaur. They had so many check-out lanes, yet only one or two were open. The help were clueless--didn't know their inventory or where things were in the store.

No local K Marts are closing in my area but we are losing our nearest Sears. I don't shop there that much and there is another Sears not too far away.

I am sorry to see these stores go, but hated to see the way the stores were being managed or, should I say, mismanaged.

The Kmart near me (southern Maryland) was a wonderful store at one time. Martha Stewart products were around then, and the store was clean and well-organized.

Over the years, the store became junky, but it still seemed clean. By the time it closed, I had stopped shopping there. Everything was all over the place all the time. Few checkers and long waits.

There are a lot of shopping options -- 4 Walmarts less than 40 minutes from my house. Also, two Targets less than 30 minutes. So far, all these stores seem to be thriving.

It's too bad, but that seems to be the way of so many places now. I felt bad for the employees that lost jobs.

We lost our Kmart a couple of years ago and I do miss it because I liked it better than walmart. Now I go to target rather than walmart. It is such a shame what has happened to Kmart. I still get emails from them but there are none locally.
