Treat the same as working while drunk. All this country needs is another substance for people to take then drive under the influence, killing more innocent people. Are we selling our souls for a little tax revenue? I think so. Making recreational mj legal is a really bad idea.

Like any substance, there are those who use and those who don't set limits and abuse... Personally, I don't think that means everyone should be denied because some can't manage it...

I've never used any drug, nor do I drink, but if people are going to use it, it should be taxed

If people are high and cause a road accident, there are funds to help pay for the damages. People use it now ,and cause accidents ,and there is nothing that helps cover the cost for the victims

Just because cannabis is legal doesn't mean you can work or drive stoned. Where I worked, they took them to a clinic, had them tested for drugs or alcohol. If the test was positive, they were terminated. Many of them worked around heavy machinery and other equipment so they not only endangered themselves but other employees as well.

We visit a town in Colorado every year and I have seen some sad changes since pot was legalized. People sitting in front of stores not moving when you ask and finding out that they aren’t there for pot, but for other drugs. I also smell it behind the stores even though people aren’t suppose to be smoking while at work or on the sidewalks. It’s a joke as far as I’m concerned. It will happen to the cute little towns in CA, too.

Not all pot gets you high. There are strains that are low-level THC and many are used in the mmj industry. If you test positive for marijuana then this doesn't necessarily mean that you were or are stoned. Depends on the type of cannabis you used. I worked as medical forensic toxicologist and I had cases where employers submitted their workers samples for drug testing. On occasion, there were a few that got dismissed for medical reasons.

How do they cope now? It won't be any different then co-workers who work while drunk, high on illegal/legal pills, meth or any other substance that shouldn't be consumed while on the job.

Cope with what? People have been using drugs and drinking the most popular drug, alcohol for more years than anyone can count...lol Stoned, drunk, buzzed; it doesn't make any difference what a worker's drug of choice is. The rules are the rules.

If they are stoned I'm sure they can fire them. Don't they still have to abide by drug testing if your employer requires it?

If they can do their job should not be a problem. It will be the ones that over do it. Employers are not blind they can see if you are on drugs. Look at their eyes, watch their actions etc.

IMO it's not any different then people running around on prescription drugs driving, working etc.

That's why it takes so long to get checked out while in the store. People are on so many drugs they are in slow motion.

@SeaMaiden If people are smoking medical Marjuana for pain, they need to be on disability. First of all, they should not be smoking. They should buy the marajuana in an edible state. There are so many people abusing this system and it should not be sold so you can smoke it. Who is in charge of this program? Does it take a 2 year old to figure out that you should not smoke because of lung cancer, second hand smoke, etc. It should only be in edible form -- that's pretty easy to figure out. There are so many people that report to work high. It's up to their manage to put a stop to it.

They told you that? I can't imagine that because the license would be pulled immediately in this state. There are some tough laws going with legalization.

There's still much to be developed in the way of testing for the presence of marijuana. The current methods are, in comparison to most other standards of drug testing, somewhat simplified and more needs to be done to regulate it's forensic component.

They don't need to be on disability. They are using it mostly for pain which can be temporary, It's given to children for seizures, also.

Also, you might not have heard, but a lot of medical MJ DOES NOT make anyone high.

Nor do most people smoke it in CA, it comes in edibles.

@Noel7 I never heard of anything taken out of the marjuana so the people do not get high. I thought that is what helps with the pain. I don't know that much about it but it would be great that it is only sold in edible form. I remember seeing a program about Colorado (I believe they were the first state that legalized it) and all these young people were coming in to this store and buying the different varieties of marajuana. This program showed me that their program was completely out of control.

It's a whole different world out there since when probably many of us here imbibed in college.

Yes, they make a lot of it for medical use with 'ingredients', for lack of a better word, that do not make anyone high, it just helps with pain. Re: young people, here there are A LOT of elderly people who can't afford prescriptions so they use medical MJ.

I have suggested my daughter ask her MD about it. She has a very painful condition that makes me cry when I see her go to work anyway, or suffer through it while running errands. She was given opiates but won't use them.
