A college TV channel decided to do a "What would you do" type presentation. They went to a popular jogging park and taped a man who appeared to be beating a woman. I was appaled at how many people , both men & women , just jogged on by without doing or saying anything. Many stopped to stare but still did nothing. 2 young men grabbed the guy off her and were about to pulverize him but the cameraman stepped in & explained it to them. Otherwise, even though dozens of people went by, the only ones who stopped to try to intervene were girls and women, and then , only a few. A couple women yelled at him that they were calling the police. A cop even went by but did not stop to do anything - IMO he needs to be fired!

I find it totally appaling that anyone would just walk or run right past this. I would have , at the very least, stopped and called 911 and tried to make him stop.

I would not have physically inserted myself in to the situation.

That can be dangerous. He could turn on you and start beating on you.

Yes, I know that this was a set up, but I am saying that if it had been real.

People don't want to get involved, because they feel that it isn't any of their business.

I would have called 9-1-1, and have in real domestic violence situations.

I wouldn't be so fast to call for having the cop fired. It is highly likely that local PD was informed about the situation and by driving by the officer verified it was the enactment scenario they had been told about.

I wouldn't have put myself in the middle of it and honestly not sure I would have called 911 unless I was guaranteed was anonymous.

It's not clear if this college TV channel staged a "what would you do" presentation or did they just come upon the scene by happenstance? And why did the camera men stop the two who tried to step in?

If it was truly a domestic incident, it's evident from recent events that even police trying to intervene can be killed or wounded. They are among the most dangerous situations for police or civilians to get involved in. A 911 call would be most prudent.

In the four times that I had to call 9-1-1 for DV, I didn't request to remain anonymous.

One abuser was my next door neighbor (this was back in the '90's), and he never knew that it was me who called.

no, not everyone gets involved in other peoples situations, especially when you have to make a split second decision.

It was perfectly clear that it was a what would you do incident and they stepped in to prevent the poor actor getting beat up.

I'd have called the police, I wouldn't have intervened because, perhaps you have heard, people carry guns today. Lots of people. So, the best thing to do is call the police. We've all seen those stories about good samaritans who end up dead when they try to intevene in violent situations.

Well, since it wasn't perfectly clear to me if it was real or not, I think the TV channel staff could have been held responsible if someone were really hurt. Quite irresponsible of them IMO.

If you ever watch "What Would You Do?", they always say that before any scenario is done they notify the police and 9-1-1 beforehand.

I'm sure that college did the same thing, which is why the cop walked by in the park.

Well, pssst right back at you. Not everyone is familiar with the show, especially people walking down the street who might believe it's real and enhance the possibility of causing some real damage.

There's enough mayhem going on in real life without a reality TV show creating more.
