@fordtruck wrote:

My skin is too fair for a tat but I've seen really beautiful tattoos on women who had brown skin. One acquaintance of mine had hers done with just black ink on the entire length of one arm in vines and flowers and it was amazingly beautiful. Never saw anything like that before. No color and yet it was beautiful. On me that black ink against my fair skin would not look good at all. I have seen tattoos with pretty color on fair skin and it did look good but again on me no, it would not look good. I have freckles and really fair skin; not a good canvas for lettering either.

There is no such thing as too fair for a tattoo, I think the contrast between my very pale skin and my tattoos looks beautiful. The colors are true, but I think my solid black ones look even nicer.

Who here has tattoos if anyone? What do you think of tats?

Oh a a few years ago, I thought about getting a tat with Beatles lyrics.

Now my oldest granddaughter (almost 20), wants me to get a tat with her with the Beatles lyrics "In My Life I Love You More" (period thats all it will say!). I said I would do it after the New Year.

I think it will be cool to get it done, although I haven't decided where on my body. But I am talking small words nothing extravagant and maybe a heart behind the words. (I just feel I am too old to be having a big piece of art on my body. lol Just my opinion as I often think what will all these young people who get them look like in 30 years with tats?)

Anyway granddaughter went and got her first tat, its a David Bowie album cover type tat on her shoulder.(shes an old soul and we love all the same music, among many other things we agree on taste wise).

I think the art work is magnificent, really outstanding, but as I looked at the picture I couldn't help thinking will she regret this when shes my age? (I know its her business so I just thought this to myself I didn't say it to her).

Lastly, now since she went shes going to get another tat on the other shoulder next too! (in addition to the one with me!).

So I think i will get the lyrics above with her, and I am kind of excited about it, but there's where I draw the line on tats. If any other grandkids ask me in the future, I wont get more. lol..

You?

I personally would never get a tattoo. I pass no judgment on anyone with a tattoo or two, but I will admit to disliking multiple tattoos all over, most of them quite visible.

Saw a guy sitting in an expensie restaurant the other day wearing cargo pants that were knee length. From his knees to his feet he was tattooed solid with a pattern, the sleeve look. His partner had been specifically tattooed so that both shoulders in a cold shoulder blouse showed large tattoos. That kind of gung-ho with tattoos is not something I would ever like.

I can remember back when, and it was like it seemed only service men got them.

Now, it's like --- most everyone has at least 1. 1 or a couple or so, tastefully done and placed do not bother me at all and I think so many of them are so interesting and beautiful. I didn't get one until rather late in life -- it's very small, tiny even.

However, there are so, so many people who are just covered in them. To each his or her own, but I don't care for this look at all.

But I truly think for the most part, no one really gives it much thought any more. If you enjoy it, go for it. It's not hurting anyone.
