Shipping alerts

To anyone who uses USPS alot for holiday shipping:

Today, I saw an alert that my package was in the area, so I waited. UPS came by but not USPS. Then the alert said it was delivered! But I never got it. I went to my apartment post box to see if a note was left saying go to the office but nothing. I am wondering if I am jumping the gun here to worry. Can it say delivered when it is not, maybe next day? UPS leaves me a note on the door when I am gone that they left the package at the office. And here I was recently defending USPS against those who prefer FedEx. It is Temptations stuff. Every time I order from them, something happens. I think I can do without them if I have issues with every order. My QVC, Evine, and HSN gifts got here this week ok, just this last one left, and I was empty handed when I thought it was here.Anyone know about thoese alerts being accurate? Thanks.

@LisaMofSLC There have been a few threads across the board about these "alerts". I can tell you that more often than not, my "delivered" means it has NOT when USPS is involved. I give it 2 days from when the message posts and then I call CS and demand a refund or a new order sent overnight at their expense. When it HAS been delivered, the time is ALWAYS in the wee hours of the morning. My mail is delivered from 12:30 to 1PM EVERY day. Has been for 13 years here. I have NO idea why the time shows it as being delivered at 1/3/7/3/9/4 am in the morning. I'm sure that's ANOTHER story....

In my area I've had the same mail guy for at least 25 (or more) years.

He retired about two months ago! OMG! It has been a nightmare. He warned us though. He said the post office is hiring people who aren't screened very well and do a half (insert your own word) job.

He wasn't exaggerating! My mail has been left in my newspaper box, shoved into the mail box (it's a large mailbox, but I guess not big enough for this idiot). At least 3 times I've had to call the annex where he comes from to get someone back out because he'd shoved the small box in and I couldn't get it out of the mailbox!

Just yesterday, my friend (who walks the neighborhood for exercise) called me and said the mail man had put my mail (and another small box) UNDER the mail box (on the ground).

I won't bore you with some of the other antics this idiot has done with me and other's. It's been a nightmare!

My neighbor gets a check every month for his daughter. It is sent registered and something else. Anyway, there was never a problem. It comes at exactly the same time every month. This is the money this girl lives on every month so she looks for it.

It's amazing the places this check (envelope) has ended up! Instead of having my friend sign for it (he's home waiting for it) it's gone to the neighbor (just left in their mailbox, it's gone to other neighbors and on and on. Everyone has complained and no one cares.

I'm 71, I guess I'm 'old school'. Like many of you, when I had a job or was given a task, I did exactly what I was supposed to do. I worked for the government and back then, if I didn't follow the rules (this was in the late 60's and beginning of 70's) I'd get written up and it would go on my record.

I guess these days with many jobs, anything goes! It seems to me many people just don't care!

I know so many people who are in their 50's who can't find jobs (2 sisters who are RN's) they swear it's because of their age. I know other people in various previous jobs who can no longer find jobs. Several have been looking for as long as 2 or more YEARS.

It's crazy! You'd think if someone was lucky enough to have a job, they'd do a good 'job' to keep it! I guess not!

Anyway, my point is it seems like whatever the job people just don't take time to do it right or they don't seem to care. If you take the time to complain it falls on deaf ears. There's no follow-through on the complaints.

I was so happy recently because everyone (myself included) was having trouble sitting at a light waiting for it to turn green so we could go on a major highway.

Everyone kept complaining but when I said, "Did you call the Virginia Dept of Highways?" They said, "We don't have time". Well I do. So first I contacted my local representative. He forwarded my email on to Virginia Dept of Hwy representative for my area.

This VDOT gentleman called me and said he would look into it and asked me to give him a little time (due to the holiday). I said, "That sounds good. Don't forget me".

Long story short, He sent me an email and said they'd checked out my complaint and it light WAS messed up and it would be fixed. Within a few days it was obvious the light was now working correctly.

I've always been a letter writer, a phone caller, whatever it takes to let the authority know about the problem.

In the "old days" people cared and at least responded. These days, well, as I said above....no one cares.

That's what made this call from the Virginia Dept of Highway representative so wonderful.

Every now and then there are people who do their job right. Unfortunately, they are getting fewer and farther between.

Incidentally, this VDOT gentleman (during the conversation) said he was due to retire after the first of the year. I thought, "OK so no wonder I heard from him. He's "old school" too.....too bad he's retiring.

Thanks for letting me vent. I guess I could have just said, "I feel your pain" but you wouldn't have 'heard' my story....HA!

@Annabellethecat66, I'm SO glad you've started using paragraphs. Previously, I would've had to skip your wonderful post here.

@LisaMofSLC, my letter carrier scans packages as 'delivered' at the door as he delivers them, not ahead of time. Possibly your package was delivered to the wrong address. I would check with him/her right away.

@SahmIam, USPS is handling so many packages right now it may not come via your regular letter carrier. I've seen other USPS trucks in my neighborhood just for package delivery. My mailman is still only delivering the smaller ones he can fit in his shoulder pouch as he walks the mail route.

@x Hedge For a long time I've been using paragraphs. If anything for a long time I've worried because sometimes in a paragraph just two or three sentences are in the paragraph.

I assume you don't mean anything by your post, but it does seem kinda (just a little) condescending....but like I said, I'm sure you don't mean anything by it. Thanks...I guess.

@Annabellethecat66, I'm sorry if I gave that impression. I often had to give up reading part way through yours (and other's) due to vision issues. It was very frustrating for me. I enjoy your writing and I'm simply saying I'm glad I can read them easily now.

I supposedly had a QVC order delivered last week. I was home, no doorbell ring, nothing. Thankfully QVC was great and refunded me. It was odd because our usual mailman delivers packages first tthen does the mail. This tracking said this package was delivered in the afternoon. I waited another day, but never got it. i was afraid to re-order ir.

Amazon has dropped things off without ringing the bell. Fed-EX too, they just leave it on the front steps for the taking. The UPS guy always rings the bell.

I orderd gifts for DH from Amazon and had them delivered to a friend's stroe. My friend has more than just me having packages sent to his store. He is a darling.

I admit I do get 'wordy' and I admit I tend to be overly sensitive about it. Thanks for reading them (that's what I SHOULD have said).

Thanks to you and Hedge for the reply. Happy ending. It came today and to the office. They left me a voicemail it was there. Phew! All gifts arrived safely.
