Facebook Etiquette

Maybe I'm just too sensitive but I was wondering how others feel about this. When I post something to a friend or relative's Facebook page (something I think they would like or find interesting) is it too much to expect a response? It doesn't even have to be a comment, even a like would be nice. I feel like what I have to say is of no value. I always say I won't post to their page again, but I do. I guess I'll never learn.

jordan 2 i feel that way when i text someone and they cant be bothered responding. im not on facebook but i get what our saying. its rude.

I find it very annoying and rude when people text me and think I'm supposed to respond that day. I don't live with my phone.

Maybe they are like me and don't look at Facebook very often, or are busy and can't respond to everything. If that is the case, maybe you are expecting that everyone has Facebook as a priority in their life,which may not be the case.

@tansy, I don't think I do it that often. This is usually my sister and her adult children, I'll give information, video clips, things of that nature. I am Facebook friends with a friend of my sister's and she's nicer to me then my own blood is!

not everyone is on facebook daily.

not everyone has the time to check on everything that may be posted to their page.

not everyone may LIKE what you post to their page.

i have found that if someone posts something to my page and i dont like it, i do not respond or i may even delete it. believe me, it has happened a number of times, especially in this past year and a half or so.

@sunshine45, my nieces and nephew live on social media, I am sure they check their Facebook page often. I don't always agree with something someone posts on my page, but I feel that by liking it, I let them know I have read it.

I didn't realize belonging to facebook entailed daily maintenance. Guess it's a good thing I don't have an account, I would hate to be considered impolite.

Maybe your friend has a whole lot of time that your sister with kids doesn't have. I simply wouldn't post much at all if you expect someone to have time for everything that pops up. In today's world, that's a big chunk of time that many people simply don't have.

I also wouldn't be hurt if they don't respond. You post it for them to enjoy, and not just to get a response, so just let it go at that and assume they saw it.

speaking for myself only......i would never LIKE something on facebook if i did not like it, just to acknowledge that i had seen it.

i know that my children, who are in their early 20s, are not using facebook and twitter as much anymore. they are much more into instagram and snapchat.

sometimes it is just impossible to catch up on everything that has been posted and/or commented on on facebook. when i sign into my facebook account in the morning there are sometimes 20 notfications just from overnight. i dont always have time to see what they are.

I deactivated my Facebook a little over a month ago, and have not missed it one bit. What started out as a fun way to keep in touch with friends thousands of miles away has become a distraction in my life that I don't need. Just yesterday, apparently one of my friends (a lifelong childhood friend...besties in middle & HS) noticed I'm no longer on Facebook and sent me a text..."what happened to you?"...not "hello, how are you doing?" (or something along those lines) I thought to myself, is this what it has come to? Friends are more concerned about your Facebook whereabouts than to simply ask how you're doing? I texted her back and said nothing happened to me. I simply deactivated my Facebook account because I'm tired of all the BS. Interestingly I received no further response from her. That just confirmed in my mind that I made the right decision to bounce.

Not everyone actually reads or posts to their Facebook page . Many people are on Instagram and Twitter and their Facebook page is automatically updated with content they post on other sites. So it looks like they are on Facebook when they are not.

Not everyone has time to read every linked article, view every video or respond to every person who posts to them.

Many people have their notifications turned off so they have no idea you've posted to them until they come to their page and read.

Many times I see the notification when I'm on my phone in my car and forget about it when I get back to my laptop.

I probably know little to nothing about Facebook etiquette, as I deactivated my account years ago. Social media is just not for me, as it turns out, and I'm happy with that.

But i would probably just find a way to just post what I want and then not expect any response. I know, that's no fun and it's more fun to hear from them what they thought. But you can't change them, I guess.

The only part I did not get is doing a 'like' on something you actually don't like. That just doesn't make sense to me. No offense intended, of course, but maybe it's just that I'm missing something there.

I am sure I have not responded properly to FB many times. Most ladies I know don’t check in that often with FB.

However, they forgive my mistakes!

Rarely does anyone post to my page FOR me. But, upon occasion, when they have found something they think I’d like, I will get a notice that someone posted to my timeline. I can then review the item and decide if I want to review it and have it placed on my timeline (made public)

Maybe it is the way my settings are set?

ITA, a response is only polite if someone posts directly to me.

It doesn't.

Most of us realize that some people check FB all day long, others just every so often, and some very rarely. Everyone I know who is on FB lives normal lives away from FB, and we know very well that "real life" takes precedence. It's supposed to be an enjoyable diversion, not to be taken super-seriously.

The idea is to post and do whatever else, and then people read, reply, or both, or neither. It really isn't a big deal until someone makes it one.

I have a very large group of friends from high school that keeps together through face book.

We don't post things on each other's face book pages (I don't like it and I don't think they do either).

There is a way if you want to correspond with each other you can do that and other's can't see it.

We use that all of the time. I understand everyone is different but none of my friends post things on anyone else's face book pages.
