Calling All Anglophiles

@dulwich and any other ex-pats or Anglophiles -

I just came across a fabulous website I’d never heard of before, that sells British foodstuffs and other things. It looks like most of the foods they offer are not just imported, but cooked/baked here in the US, and can be shipped anywhere in the US. The prices of the goods seem reasonable to me.

Meat pies and veg pies, scones, puddings, sponge cakes, even fish & chips! Scotch eggs, sausage rolls & pasties. Fresh made sausages, many kinds. Shepherd’s pie. Imported fish from the UK. Tons of goodies. Enjoy!

Oooooh @Moonchilde are my hips in trouble! DH went straight on site ordered pork pies, sausage rolls, steak and ale puddings. Thank you for this - I think! Lol.

It just all looks so good, @dulwich! I’ve had meat pies that were made by British bakeries on the West Coast that were okay but not brilliant. The products on this site look top quality. Come back & tell us how you & DH liked them.

I will add that, especially if you live out West, you’re much better off to order the $100 worth and get free shipping. I put some things in my cart that added up to $38, just to see how much not-free shipping was, and the shipping was $27 🙀. It may be less on the East Coast and Midwest.

Neat site, thank you! We used to have Arthur Treachers franchises Fish & Chips back in the 70's. They were the best - served with vinegar on the side to dip the chips in - also tarter sauce. Miss that.

@Moonchilde Did see that but DH likes to cut pieces off pie smooch with Coleman's which is 'dolloped' on his plate with tomatoe on the side - can visualize him now. Needless to say he is Brit too or did you guess!

I wish they did a curry pie. I would probably like the tikka (depending on how spicy) but I used to love the curry pies I could buy in several places around town when I lived in LA. Love the idea of the cheese, potato & onion pie - yum!

What’s the difference between cottage pie and shepherd’s pie? I want to say that cottage pie has cubed meat and shepherd’s pie is ground, but I’m not sure that’s right.

My strange addiction? Heinz Salad Cream, which you can buy in Cost Plus and other places. What cracked me up is that a Thai restaurant I used to go to in Santa Monica used it as their house salad dressing.

The sausage with tomato in sounded interesting. I assume that the Parker’s sausage is what I would think of as the typical banger? Another love? Banger & onions on a roll. Yum!

@dulwich I was going to ask you this til I read your post!

It took me a while to learn that "biscuits" are "cookies." I kept hearing "chocolate biscuit" and thought "huh"? Although it could have been a chocolate croissant, I know know it's a cookie.

@Moonchilde Shepherd's pie usually made with lamb - get it shepherd and lambs! and cottage pie with beef - saying this no-one follows rules it is just personal preferences but when I was at school many moons ago this is how we were taught.

Love, love, love curry - never had a pie but in U.K. Curry is where it's at. Just got back from U.K. and did I enjoy some great curries. Yes I know all about Heinz Salad cream too.

Typical banger here is nothing like my bangers at home but I think the one you mention maybe worth a try. Love bangers and mash, also I make a mean toad-in-the-hole here but use breakfast pork sausages as they are the nearest to what we use at home. Most of the sausages here have too many flavors for us but yes but do love the Italian sausage for flavoring so many dishes.

Looking forward to receiving our pies noticed the steak and kidney sold out until after Christmas another favorite.

@Pearlee Yes our biscuits are your cookies and our supermarket just recently offered McVitie's Digestive biscuits - a great favorite in the U.K. - we bought a dozen packs to hoard for Christmas. Will probably never see them again but fir now tallyho!

@dulwich, one of the reasons I like bangers is the reason I like authentic German bratwurst - it’s mildly seasoned. I don’t like heavily peppered or garlicked meats at all. No pepperoni, salami, kielbasa or the like for me. I think the British & German sausages are just right.

Interesting about the shepherd’s pie, as all of them I’ve seen on restaurant menus have been beef, usually ground beef, but since most Americans don’t eat lamb much, that may just be an American menu change. I had a British friend in LA who would make it all from scratch - meat, potatoes, gravy, fresh veggies - but she used beef, undoubtedly realizing that lamb wouldn’t go over big.

McVities and other biscuits can be bought at Cost Plus (they do mail order as well as the stores) and some major chain markets and probably that and Hob Nobs and some others can be found on Amazon. Think I bought some Jammie Dodgers there once too.

@Moonchilde Yes I make shepherd's pie with beef I do not like the lamb here at all. The lamb I have seen here generally comes from Australia or New Zealand and it is too 'gamey' or strong tasting for me. When I go home I always get an English leg of lamb as it is much sweeter and milder tasting delicious with baby peas and mint sauce! and roast potatoes yum! Sunday roast.

I must be the only 'alien' cooking Sunday roast dinners when it is 90+ degrees here in the summer. Not telling DH about Hob Nobs his other favorite! We are nowhere near a Cost Plus unfortunately but do check online.

If if ever our move back to CA occurs I will still provide you with previously offered cream tea or maybe now shepherd's pie!

We like German sausages too.

Sounds good . I like bangers and all types of meat pies

Will have to run this site by my daughter's boyfriend, who is from the UK. But it sounds authentic,to me.
