They are not gentlemen

I just heard the Blink rep refer to persons shown breaking into a house as gentlemen. I have also heard this done on local news. A gentleman connotes certain qualities that a burgler does not possess. Why not just say man or woman when describing the perpetrator?

OMG! ITA! One of my pet peeves!!! Why not just say "the man" or "the guy." It's so stupid to call someone being sought for or charged with a crime a "gentleman."

I've never heard them call a female criminal a "lady" when speaking of her.

That would be equally stupid, of course.

This is one of my husband's many peeves. Every time a news person uses the word to refer to a criminal, he cringes.

I cringe when I hear that term too. It sounds so stupid. My first choice would be suspect, or at least subject.

They aren't ladies either. Two young girls badly beat a pizza driver in my area. The news caster called them young ladies

Not so you would notice, I thought. They are female monsters in my book, and should not be given the title of a young lady
