Who likes fruitcake?

I will be the first to say I've never met a fruitcake, I could eat. People have urged me to try the ones they loved ,saying this one is different. They are all different ...blech

In my book they are all terrible. I don't like the taste of stuff soaked in alcohol. I don't like candied fruit, and most if not all of the cakes are as heavy as a brick.

I make a recipe called "White Fruitcake" that adds coconut and almonds to the normal glaceed fruit mixture. It is best enjoyed with a cup of Constant Comment tea.

Years ago a place called Walnut Acre's sold a fruitcake that was made with whole wheat flour and real fruit in it. Fruit like, raisins, dates, cherries, dried apples and nuts, no booze. Now that was my kinda fruit cake, but they went out of business or sold the business.

It's been years since I've eaten fruitcake. It's okay as long as it is very moist, has lots of pecans and just a little bit of the fruits called currants. By the way, I, too love a piping hot cup of Constant Comment tea.

I love fruitcake. Mom made one every year for Daddy from a receipe in Parade Magazine. It had choco chips, dates and red and green cherries. She would make it right after TG. She would then store it in a cool place and wrap it in brandy soaked cheese cloth.

Gotta say, I love it! search all over town for local fruitcakes at Xmas time. Love the heavy, rich Benedictine Monk ones, with brandy.

In addition to this heresy, two of my daughters also concur. I think my son might like just a taste, but we have to limit our treats.

@cherry. I wouldn't mind that 🤣 one bit. Awrey's used to sell a non-alcohol laced version of fruitcake with lots of pecans and walnuts. I think they still do. I don't buy it because nobody in my family (that's living) likes it.

Leave out the candied fruit and I will eat a small slice. That’s not an enthusiastic response but the best I could muster up. Years ago my company Christmas gift was a fruit cake from a bakery in Texas. It didn’t have the candied fruit and was pretty good. However, a fruitcake is a lame employee gift.

Everyone I know knows that I love fruit cakes. I buy them 1/2 price (if and when I find them on clearance). And freeze them for enjoying later. Also, I've soaked cheesecloth in brandy and wrapped regular fruit cakes, stored in fridge. Just for that flavor.

I like homemade fruit cake that is moist and that has a lot of nuts and quality fruit in it, not that store bought candied, colored fruit.

Store bought fruit cake is gross and dry and can be used as a hockey puck.

i haven’t tired to make a gluten free one, so I haven’t tasted fruit cake for many years.
