Not important...but

I am at home after an emergency trip to NJ so that I could see my mother, who broke her hip. The rest of the family and her aide will have to cover for me because I must have knee replacement surgery next Tuesday. I have rescheduled this surgery twice because of family obligations and now I can hardly walk so I am NOT going to reschedule...but I digress.

The point of this post is to ask how the following hasn’t been shut down: I was net surfing and on many websites, e.g. CNN, there are links to false stories involving celebrities. The typical pattern is that someone is leaving her lucrative position, Why? To promote a heaven- sent, miraculous skin cream. The stories are totally bogus. How do they get away with it? There is not an iota of truth in these ads but they pervade the Internet.

Let the reader beware. The internet is full of fake stories. They hook you in and when you click on the story, you get diverted to some add or the story you were interested in, just isn't there. Surfing the web is fun but you can't take everything at face value.

All it takes for ANY story to be on the web is for someone to type it out that has access to a web server!

There's also a lot of "click bait" on all kinds of sites (certainly not exclusive to CNN or any news outlet) that can compromise your security.

The internet can be a dangerous place. Scammers are everywhere just looking for an opportunity.

I never click on those attention-grabbing links. If a story looks interesting I will google it myself to see if I can find it. Usually, I don't find anything.

As a veteran of two knee replacements, @Vivian, I’m hoping you have a smooth recovery.

I always get a weird weird message that Sally Field has passed away. What’s with that??

I had my knee replacement surgery 5 weeks ago. Good luck and you will do fine. The first 10 days or so are tough but you’ll get through it.

I had revision on an 11 year old replacement, on 11-14. Knee portion was reduced down 2 sizes, femur was reduced down 1 size ~ no wonder I was always in pain!

Things have sure changed for the better in this area IMO. I was walking 🚶 with a walker w/i 3 days. Pain is already MUCH less than pre-surgery! Full weight bearing already.

When I’m fully recovered I believe it will be grand. Already I’m grateful to be in so much less pain.

I frequently see those bogus ads on the MSN homepage as well as Yahoo and I assume they are paying those companies to place them. If that's the case then they should be held accountable but I guess they just don't care because the celebrities they've impacted have already complained about it and got nothing for their effort.
