your cat runs away when you start to sing.

That's exactly what happened to me.

My cat Charlie was laying in my lap, and I sarted to sing, "The Rose".

By the time I got to the second line, he was gone.

Yeah, I'm not going to give up my day job, if my own cat can't stand to hear me sing! *lol*

@Plaid Pants2 I know what you mean. When my granddaughters were very young, I'd sing something to them and they'd say, "Grandma, please don't sing".

I didn't take it personally but laughed. Then I started thinking about how my chorus teachers must have lied to me when I was in chorus. Ha!

But,yeah, I hear you. Every year I sing 'Happy Birthday to Ru' to the dog and he looks at me like 'really?'. He tries to hang until I'm done but you can see that he's just being kind.

@Plaid Pants2 LOL...I still believe that you should ding your heart out no matter what.I have a terrible voice too and yet I continue.I love to give singing birthday wishes to friends and colleagues...some say it makes them happy to know they have one less coming.I sing in stores if they are playing a great song and once a lady told me to stop but I won't.We can't all be talented singers but we can still belt out a song if it makes us feel happy and so far no laws against it.

My mom had a terrible voice, and we always made fun of her, lovingly. What I wouldn't give to hear those off key Christmas songs that she loved to sing.🎄

My father and I are tone deaf. I was constantly embarrassed in school by being made to sing up in front of the class. Everyone was required to do this. By 9th grad we all had to try out for chorus. The best were chosen for private classes. I told the music director I was tone deaf. He was very understanding and told me not to worry as many people are Please just try a few lines. I did as he asked. He agreed and noted my records so that I would not be put in an embarrassing situation again.

I sing in the car with the windows up. My Siberian husky and beagle always sang with me. I got kisses so hopefully I didn't hurt their ears to much. But maybe the kisses were to hush me up. Hahaha

My one dog used to bark when I would start to sing. I suppose you could say he was singing with me, but I knew he was really just protesting! My other dogs would leave the room. LOL

I know what you mean. My dog runs downstairs and hides under the sofa.

Might not be my fault though. I get the impression that in her last home they did a lot of yelling. She runs to hide whenever she hears loud voices, even on the TV.

LOL. You may not necessrily be a bad singer, but there IS something about singing that cats react to. Most of the cats I have ever owned had a reaction. I use singing as a means to find them when they have disappeared somewhere in my house, or if I want them to stop doing something I don't want them doing. I have some go to songs that I sing at the top of my lungs, and they come running. It's as if they will do anything to get me to stop. Perhaps it's because I sing those songs very loudly. I am a good singer and was in All City Chorus, church choir and high school glee club in my younger days. I just think they are not amused by singing. Of course it could be my choice of songs: What's New Pussycat; Sunny Side of the Street; Take Me Out To the Ballgame; Somebody To Love. They are all showstoppers to my cats.

Funny you mention this.

On another thread earlier in the week, I commented that I was singing along to "It's a Jungle Out There" while watching Monk.

One cat gave me the stink eye, the other laid his ears back like he was going to rip my throat out! LOL

You would think a cat would get It's a Jungle out There, right?

@Plaid Pants2 LOL, I was going to end your sentence exactly the same way you did! The only difference is that when I sing, my cat "Al" comes running to me from the other room, looks me in the eye, and gives me a whiney meeoooooww. I think he thinks I'm not feeling well!

My Doxie seems to enjoy it when I play the keyboard and sometimes sing. He will lie on the bed and listen and sometimes go to sleep.

He actually 'asks' to go in the extra room where a bed and my keyboard are. He will go lie down with his nose at the edge of the bed near the keyboard and he expects me to play! Weird?

I know i am a bad singer when (I was about 4-5 yrs old) i would stand in the cull de sac where I was growing up and sing away outside. The neighbors would come out and tell me to "shut up".

The next time was at the church I was attending the organist that use to sit in front of church off to side told me to quit singing I was lousy and throwing off his playing.

the last time was a few years ago dh and i got into town acting at the locat theater. He got the lead in the play and I was to play a by stander (I tried out for lady lead-but lost), and sing along with other by standers. I was told to keep my voice silent and mouth the singing words.

I still sing in church, if I am bad so be it. I enjoy to sing and always have
