Any experienced EBay sellers out there? I need help!

So I’m selling an item on eBay. I haven’t sold anything on there in a long time. When I listed item I said “no international shipping.” Mostly because this item has an internal battery & a battery in the charging cover. There are a lot of restrictions on mailing batteries- especially internationally.

My listing isn’t done yet but I noticed that the 2 that have been bidding are both from outside the US. In case they didn’t see the shipping info I clearly stated again that I would only ship to US addresses.

So does anyone know what happens if the winning bidder asks me to mail the item internationally? I will not ship & as I stated it probably can’t be shipped internationally. Have I just wasted my time & money listing the item? Will I owe EBay anything? Will it have to be re-listed to sell again? I am anxious to sell it as I already ordered a replacement (newest) version since I knew it would sell. Help!

If your listing says you don't ship internationally, you won't have to ship it. If you can edit your listing, maybe you should state it in your listing in capital letters and bold type that you do not ship internationally.

If someone outside the country wins, maybe you'd have to deal with the next highest bidder who is in the country.

Or you may have to relist the item. I doubt ebay will make you pay anything for a deal that couldn't be completed through no fault of your own.

Maybe the international bidders have someone here who will send it to them.

Ugh. This is a huge pet peeve of mine.

It doesn't matter how many places you state it, they still big and win. And then I have to re-list it.

No, you haven't wasted your money but you have wasted your time.

I can have my listing set where it only ships to US and have in big bold letters US ONLY and international bidders will still bid and win anyway. Then they play dumb, why can't you ship it to me???

I still don't understand the point of setting your shipping listings to US only if EBAY continues to allow international bidders to bid anyway. You would think the whole point of that would be so they couldn't bid.

When the auction is over and the bidder ends up being international, you can cancel the sale and get your fees refunded because they didn't follow the terms of your listing, but yes, it is incredible frustrating when people deliberately waste your time.

When is the auction over? Usually you can cancel bids when it's still 24 hours or more. If there is still a couple of days, you can always contact the bidders and ask them. If they want you to ship internationally, save yourself the trouble and cancel the bid now before you have to go through ebays whole process of getting your money back for the final value fees. If you keep their bids up, this might keep away any US bidders because they don't want to try to outbid the current bidders.

That doesn’t seem fair. I just found something that said you can block bidders from countries you don’t ship to. I signed up for it but it takes up to 72 hours to take effect. My auction ends in less than 48 hours. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that a US buyer will win the item. Or as another poster mentioned maybe the international buyer has a US address to ship to.

Thank you! Good to know I can cancel the sale if it’s an international buyer. I wasn’t sure that would be an option. I feel a little better now. It might not be as big a mess as I thought.

Doesn't really matter what you say in your listing if you don't exclude countries that you won't ship to. Even then, some international bidders use a reshipper so they will have a U.S. address in their PayPal when they pay.

What you can do, however, is also set your PayPal preferences to exclude any non-U.S. payments. That way if they win, they can't pay.

My first thought was that they also have a U.S. address and then ship it to themselves overseas when they receive the item.

Personally, I've never had this problem, but I'm sure there's talk of this on Ebay Community. Might be worth checking out.

I have also had this happen, and you can cancel the sale. I am always suspect that they are scammers of some type because I clearly state no international shipping.

For some reason the international bidders are making me nervous. The auction ends in just over 2 hours. It looks like the 2 main bidders are both located outside the US. One is Egypt & the other is Russia. My item is up to $164- I paid $290 for it a year ago. I was hoping to get $150 so I’m pleased with the bid. However, I don’t want a fraudulent buyer & be out my item plus all the fees. I’m kind of wishing I’d never listed it. There’s just too many crooks out there.

I definitely would not send it to Egypt or Russia. It's just too risky. I'm sorry this happened to you. I hope someone else bids on it at the last minute.

Unfortunately the winning bidder was from Russia. Since I took the advice here & blocked international payments on Pay Pal he emailed wanting other payment options. He said he could provide a US address for shipping but wanted to pay with international card. I asked if it was a Pay Pal verified addresss but haven’t heard back. I just have a bad feeling about this. It’s possible the buyer is legit but I just don’t want to take the chance. The item sold for over $166. I really don’t need it anymore since I ordered the newest version but I don’t want to get ripped off either.

If the buyer's address in PayPal is a U.S. address, it should be safe to ship to. And verified PayPal addresses are obsolete as now whatever address is attached to the PayPal transaction is the adress you need to ship to.

With ebay's Money Back Guarantee, any item that is forwarded to another address is not eligible for the MBG. However, this isn't true in PayPal. But with PayPal, the buyer needs to pay to return the item, which can be very costly.

If you truly don't want to ship, cancel the transaction with "problem with buyer address". And next time you list, list with immediate payment required.

I had so many problems with International Buyers and Buyers in general not paying after the auction that I decided to check where it says no International Buyers. I also only do Buy It Nows with Immediate payment. No one can stop my listing, have it come down without money in my PP account. It's really, REALLY been worth it for me.
