Farberware Electric Percolators

Previously, I had an 8-cup Farberware Electric Percolator - which lasted 8 months. The area at the bottom cracked - around the plug. I returned it to Bed/Bath and replaced it with a 4-cup Farberware Elec. Perc. I just washed it after making coffee - and there's a huge, wide crack at the front bottom - on the plastic area. This one lasted 3 months.

Have any of u had bad experiences with this percolator - that used to be GREAT?????

I'll return today - but don't know which coffee maker to buy. So sad!!!!

I prefer a 4-cup.

Sorry to hear you’ve been having so many problems with your Farberware percolators. And you’re right—they used to be great. We had a 12 cup we used for years; in fact, I think I still have it somewhere. And my mom had one for years too.

I’m afraid that your story isn’t unusual for many things nowadays. So many tried and true products aren’t what they used to be. The name is the same, but the quality is gone. Sorry that I don’t have any advice for you about getting another percolator. We use a simple 4 cup drip machine now, nothing fancy, but it works fine.

They used to last years and years. However, several years ago, I noticed that they only lasted a bit over a year. From the beginning, the plastic would have a melting plastic odor. I finally 'gave up'. I thought that they had improved them since my last one, but if hardly anyone complains, I guess they aren't improving their base black plastic material. Try emailing or writing to them and tell them that you, and many others are very disappointed, etc. Maybe other posters will have suggestions re: an alternative brand.

I bought one when I got married - 39 years ago. My son now uses it everyday at work.

Guess that is why they make them the way they do now. Or else no one would have to buy another one.

Absolutely nothing that is made now days ,is made to last when things were made in the USA,they lasted.

I'm sure that, in this day and age, it's a simple click away to find high-heat resistant plastic manufacturers. All F*rberware has to do is use the proper plastic base. Just 'copy' the old-fashioned way of manufacturing longer lasting percolators. Period.

While looking at coffee making options, I purchased one of these from Bed Bath....it lasted about 1 month. I thought it was a piece of garbage- never again!

I used to buy the Cuisinart coffee makers- they lasted 1-2 years max.

So, I ended up with a Frieling Coffee Press (stainless). It's perfection, & makes great coffee. I also bought it at Bed Bath with a 20% off coupon.

p.s. (again): 'If I were in charge', I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, knowing that my company was manufacturing and selling percolators that had faulty, cheap plastic bases. It's a matter of being an ethical company. Enough said.

The stainless steel coffee maker isn't even metal. It's some cheap recycled product. Made in China - where they don't care if something is safe or hamful....Can't believe America imports this junk!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe get a stainless steel one. My Mom had that don't remember the brand but think it may would last longer.

Wish I could find a good percolator. My drip coffee just isn't as good as an old-fashioned pot of coffee.

As unpopular as this sounds, some things/industries need to be better regulated. If it states 'stainless steel', it should be stainless steel. Not some other mixture of metals. Same with fabrics. No more strong odors and chemicals in many fabrics. Oh, well, I should be more positive. I'll try to be better.

My DH used a Corning Ware coffee percolator every morning to make his coffee.

You might try Ebay to find one of those.

The ones we used many years were probably made in the USA, and now they are probably made in China.

@AuntGand for anyone else that's interested. Years ago, when my mom decided to stay with a drip style, she gave me her old percolator (either Farberware or Sunbeam, can't recall). DH and I used it for a very long time, starting in the early 90's but one day, it leaked all over the counter and I knew it had to be replaced. I bought a Presto electric percolator and it's still going strong after around 15 yrs. A couple of years ago I thought I'd get a Keurig. That was short lived. I ended up giving the Keurig to my sister. There's just something about percolated coffee that can't be matched. If you check walmart dot com and Amazon, you'll see great reviews for the Presto percolator.

The plastic base on the one I bought my mom a few years ago is fine, but the thermostat burned out after a couple of years.

@ROMARY- sadly this is no longer the same Farberware company we grew up with. Hopefully you'll be able to find what you had either on eBay or at a garage sale. Nothing much is the same as what they used to be.

Amazon also sells many replacement parts.
