Weis Grocery store and limiting coupons used.....

I won't go into what I witnessed today, but I have contacted Weis Corporate and will see if they respond.

Question: Has anyone shopped at Weis recently and was told you are only allowed 4 coupons per cart? At the Weis stores in my area, this policy started a few days ago. Curious what others know/think.

My only thought is that some of those people who come in with a ton of coupons and buy a bunch of stuff they don't need and tie up the line and scoop up all the sales for themselves SHOULD be banned from stores.

I would have to find another store to shop.

If that's not an option then I would start separating the orders on the conveyor belt and make them prove you aren't shopping for others too.

Weis allows up to four coupons for the same item and they double them. If you have six coupons for bread, they will only double four coupons and the other two will be rung up at face value.

This has been their policy as far back as I can remember. I never heard of only four coupons per cart.

i know that you can only DOUBLE four of the same coupons for items purchased. for example, buy 5 kraft mac n cheese....only 4 of the coupons will be doubled.

i would stop by the management desk and/or call their corporate offices for verification of this.

@sunshine45 and @Carmie Not talking about doubling anything. This is simply you may use 4 coupons with your purchase. Choose how you wish to use them. Manager had to deal with the heated situation and....it wasn't pretty. People walked out leaving their carts full of food in line.

Like I said, I've contacted corporate; if this IS their new policy...I won't shop there. I already dislike the place due to all their games so, this would be the final straw. Just curious if others have been told this recently.

our store does not have a 4 coupon limit policy on your entire order.

maybe each store can make their own rules?

will be interested to hear what corporate has to say about the situation. i might have even called them right while i was at the store when this was going on.

I have never had a fist full of coupons, I wouldn't know where to get them. That being said , I have had 6 coupons, and .I would be annoyed if they wouldn't be honored. They art entitled to their policy, and I can shop elsewhere.

@SahmIamNo - and that seems like a number that's too small unless they mean 4 for one kind of product. I often use 5 or more in one shopping trip, but for that same number of different products.

I do think there should be limits on how many of one item can be couponed during the same visit. I have zero respect for someone using many coupons for one item. That's greedy on the part of the shopper, it's not at all in the spirit of coupons, and more than likely leads to massive waste.

And those who maintain they're doing it for charity? Maybe they are, but if they got the food for free, the donation was made by someone else. They're just doing the carrying and I'm not impressed by their idea of generosity.

I like Weis.

If you want to use more than 4 coupons can you break up the order into 2 orders/purchases or is this illegal?

If they can track it with your shoppers card, I also carry my mom's card with me too.

Sometimes we shop together. If I have more from now on and that goes into effect, I will try that. They have good offers on Fridays into the weekend.

I stopped shopping Weis a long time ago because of the poor customer service. They did not have what was advertised, Only one checkout open with a line clear back the aisle leading up to it and the rest of the employees standing & doing nothing. Also when you got you things on the conveyer the clerk suddenly decided to walk away. I complained to no avail so I left & never went back. So this only adds one more reason to shop elsewhere.

this isnt about weis in particular but at the grocery store chains i shop at. lately i have noticed more self checkout stations, less regular checkout stations open with real cashiers, no baggers or not enough to help out at all checkouts, and no one to help you out to your car anymore if you wanted help.

Where I shop you have a 50-50 chance of getting a bagger. If you do they are a challenged adults and it takes twice as long. I've never seen anyone help you out to your car. I see more self checkout stations or scan as you shop devices.

Weis Markets offers Double Coupons in select locations to our customers, amount doubled varies by store.
Weis Markets will double up to four (4) of the same coupon.
Weis Markets does not allow a customer to redeem more than one manufacturer’s coupon against a single item in a single transaction.
Coupons must have an expiration date and not appear distorted, blurry or altered.
Only four (4) coupons will be accepted on four (4) of the same product per household per day.
Weis Markets will not accept internet coupons for “Free items” or in which the value exceeds $10.
Coupons hold no cash value; therefore all negative balances must be adjusted.
Weis reserves the right to limit quantities.

Just to add something to my post above. At our self-check lanes at Weis, we no longer can scan our own coupons. It doesn't matter how many.

Just recently this change took place. If we are using coupons at the end of the order after it is totalled up, you must get the attention of the employee who is watching over to come to your self-check register and they deduct the coupon(s) for you.

Just another inconvience because I was told, too many people are taking advantage of the system by scanning coupons that they are not buying the items.

I'd split up my transactions then, limiting coupons just makes it harder for the cashier imo.

To anyone interested: That wasn't the situation and to be honest, I have NO problem with any store having that rule. This was a situation where a customer had 2 carts of food (holiday shopping, she was hosting) and when it was time to pay, she handed the cashier what looked like 8 coupons...maybe? Not many considering how much food she was buying. That's when she and the rest of us in line (2 lines with 12 plus people in line as there were no other cashiers working) that is was only 4 coupons per sale, etc.

Manager came over and informer her (and us) that the new policy began yesterday (Sunday).

The woman walked out. I watched as customer after customer abandoned their cart/s and walked out as well. Editing to add: I would have done a different transaction as others have stated in order to use up the coupons but she was paying by check. She and I talked briefly and......I felt SO bad for her AND the employees, to be honest.

I've known the people at this store for 12 years; it was Food Lion up to last year when Weis bought them and it's been horrible ever since. The manager looked at me with sad eyes and said "I HATE my job".

Still waiting to hear from Corporate....
